Riley's team knew their books inside and out and we knew they'd do well. Unfortunately, they threw us some curve balls and gave them quotes from author's notes and several physical clues that we hadn't known to study so hard. They did very well though and got 3rd place and were very happy! We were really proud of how Riley led her team.
Leighton's team didn't seem as motivated to read and study this year as they were last year, but they pulled it all together at the end and won their preliminary competition day and went to the finals! I was so happy for them that they got that experience together. They did really well, had a lot of fun, and ended up tied for 6th place in the district.
Leighton and I had to dash straight from the Name That Book competition to his track meet. Crazy that everything was on one day (there were also All City orchestra try-outs but Leighton opted out of that, luckily!), but we ate lunch in an Uber on the way and got there with plenty of time for him to cheer on his team and participate in his event. He ran the 4x400 with a group of his really close friends, and they came in first. Leighton ran so well, and it's amazing to see how much stronger and faster he is this year compared to last (his legs have turned to solid, teenage muscle!).
On the day before Spring Break started, Riley had a field trip to go see a play. They were only allowed one chaperone per class, so I wasn't able to go, but I got these cute pictures sent to me!
