"And she peed on my foot!"

That's how Leighton's day ended.

Let's rewind and see how it all started, shall we?

This morning, we were invited to Douniazed's to play and swim (as Leighton pointed out, "This is the third day in a row we get to see them!").  I had come across a recipe for Zucchini Tots that I've been wanting to try since I grabbed the zucchini on the weekend and figured this was the perfect opportunity to try them out.  Leighton helped me mix everything together and had lots of fun squeezing the water out of the zucchini.  It is amazing how much water there was in them!  I got 3/4 of a cup from two small zucchinis.  Glad I followed the directions in the recipe (because, as you all know, I am not always so good at doing that!) because I can't even imagine what soggy tots we would have had if we hadn't!  Everyone really enjoyed these.  I doubled the recipe to make 24, and I am glad I did because every last one was eaten.

The boys did some painting (Soraya watched.  Riley got one speck of red paint on her fingers, and that was enough for her!).  On their hands.  And the table.  And their feet.  And the ground.  I am still not sure what the intended target was for the paint, now that I think about it, but pretty much anything within reach was red!

Riley did some sliding.  And after one fast slide down, she exclaimed, "Wow!"  It's one of her new favorite things to say, and I'm pretty sure I will never get tired of hearing her say it.  It's pretty cute!

(And yes, for those of you who are particularly observant, she is wearing a diaper OVER her bathing suit bottoms!  It's how I've always taken the kids from home to swim ever since I discovered that swim diapers don't absorb pee the first day I took Leighton in the stroller to swim lessons in Manhattan when he was about 8 months old!  It makes perfect sense when you think about it.  They can't possibly absorb pee or they'd also absorb water, and then they'd be giant and puffed up and useless.  But, it's just one of those things I needed to experience first hand as a new mom to learn about, you know?   Anyway, now I put the swim diaper on, then the bathing suit, and then a dry regular diaper over top.  THAT ONE will do the absorbing should any pee happen on the way to the pool!  And then all I have to do is take it off and we are ready to swim.  No chasing naked bums around trying to get them into bathing suits when they are so excited to get swimming.  I save all that fun for when I am trying to get them dressed to go home!)

After a fun swim and lunch, we came back home for a little brother and sister play time (complete with hair pulling and "HAND'S UP, RILEY!") before Riley's nap.

In the afternoon, Leighton went across to play with his friend, I mean wife, Mihal.  Riley and I watched the tribute video that was compiled for the retirement celebration of the long-time PE teacher at St Luke's, the school I taught at when we lived in Manhattan.  It was fun to watch it (thanks so much for thinking to send it, John!!), but it made me sad that I missed out on the actual event and that next week my first class of little 2nd graders will have their 8th grade graduation and I won't be able to attend.

So, I was feeling a little bummed out about that, and I guess Riley is very in tune with my feelings and decided that a. I needed to see her bum and/or b. I needed some good laughs to cheer me up.  So, what do you think she did?  She took off her diaper while I walked to the computer to take out the DVD.  The girl is fast!  She's been pretty keen to take off her clothes lately (including one naked shopping trip at Target when she took off her dress when she saw me shopping the kids' clothing section and refused to put it back on!), but diaper removal was a new one.  She then was trying to put it back on and it made me laugh, so I grabbed the camera.

And after dinner, she decided to take her diaper off again.  It was almost bath time, so we figured we'd let her run around naked for a few minutes.  She knows to pee in the toilet, but always gets scared when it comes time to actually do it.  However, I thought maybe she'd want to head to the bathroom tonight if she needed to.  Well, she did.  She followed Leighton and Roy in there when Leighton was washing his hands after dinner.  And then I hear this:

Roy: "Riley!  Not there .... "
Leighton: giggling

(pause)

Leighton: And she peed on my foot!

Then I see a naked little bum streak past the kitchen on the way to the play room couch.  Roy chased her and took her back to the bathroom.  I grabbed some cloths and cleaner.  And Leighton jumped into the tub to wash his feet off.

Thanks Riley!  Now put on a diaper and let's try this naked thing again another day, shall we?

  1. That Riley is a monkey!

Great photos, an those zucchini things remind me of the zucchini madeleines I make but probably are far less fussy in the preparation department.

    1. These are more quiche-like and your madeleines are a more cake/bread/muffin consistency, aren't they? You know, I am not sure I ever ate one! I know you took them every Thanksgiving to the Towle's, but I never ate them. I bet I'd love them now, but back then I was too cool for zucchini or something!

  2. You know, I wonder what the point of swim diapers is then? I never really thought about it!

(It's Hannah's old swimsuit that Soraya's wearing... it's so funny to see someone else in it!)

    1. Swim diapers are only there to catch poop. They can do nothing for pee. So all the little ones you see in swim diapers at the pool are filling that pool with pee!

    1. Thanks. I almost didn't include it since it's so out of focus, but it was too cute not too. I seem to never get one of them together that is in focus since they are always dancing, tugging, chasing, giggling, etc when they are together!

  4. Okay, the regular dipe ON TOP of the swimsuit/swim diaper is brilliant. Why hadn't I thought of that before? Instead, I would just wrangle my kids into their swim dipe and swimsuit wherever we were. You're genius, Becky!
