A day late. I know. I thought it was only fair since I was late with my Mother's Day post, too!
Last year, I stole a cute photo idea off the internet to make a gift for Roy.
This year, I was torn between updating the photos in the frame with pictures of the kids from this year or coming up with something new. I decided on something new because that frame has yet to find itself on the wall in Roy's new office, so I didn't want to change the pictures before it was even displayed! And, let's be honest, I was worried that I would be committing myself to having to recreate the D-A-D-D-Y pictures every year and would miserably fail in that endeavor!
So, that left me hunting for something new. I saw a few ideas I liked of things to try and decided on a photo of the kids' shadows holding up a sign with a message to Daddy. Well, the children in the picture were likely older ... and/or MUCH more co-operative than Riley. The one time she actually stood still with her sign up and didn't run towards me giggling or throw her sign down in a tearful protest, Leighton had his backwards. And her fuzzy head of curls was blocking part of one 'd'. But, you know what? By that time, we had attempted this photo shoot several times over two days, it was in the mid-90s standing in the direct sun to get good shadows, and the needles from the trees were falling faster than I could sweep them up. I took what I could get, packed the kids into the wagon, and headed to Douniazed's for a swim! And, just like the cheerios 'Y' picture from last year, it shows the true personality of our kids anyway!

I LOVE IT!!!
ReplyDeleteNicely done with the stencils.
You would have laughed at my cutting them out. I got very confused of how in the world the people who took my inspiration photo got their 'e', 'a', and 'd' to work because I couldn't see any lines in their photo at first glance. Now that I look, I can see they must have used some tape like me, too!
DeleteVery nicely done, R! We're our own worst critics, needing things to be perfect, when in fact, our kids aren't and we wouldn't expect them to be. I'm so glad you decided to go with the picture you posted. It's totally your kids and the main reason I have no doubt Roy loved it!
ReplyDeleteYou are so sweet, k :)
