District Spelling Bee

Last month when Leighton placed first in the school Spelling Bee, he won the opportunity to represent the school at the District Spelling Bee.  That took place yesterday, and Leighton did so well!  Roy and I were both able to go be in the audience, and I am so glad we were both there to support him and to congratulate him on a job well done.  Out of 25 elementary and middle schools represented, he placed third!  First and second place move onto the televised Houston Public Bee in April, and although Leighton would have loved one of those trophies, he said he was relieved to not have to study anymore for a while!

They asked for no photos or videos during the competition, so I only snuck a few between rounds.  Here is with Roy before it started looking out at the auditorium and with all the competitors before it started.

As a total aside, look at these shadows on Leighton's long lashes!  This is how we occupied ourselves after he checked in and we were waiting for the Bee to start!

  1. Congratulations to Leighton! 3rd out of 25 is fantastic, especially since he is only in 4th grade. We are very proud.
