District Spelling Bee

After winning the school Spelling Bee, Leighton got to go to the District Spelling Bee.  There are 5 days of the District Bees, and it is for all the winners from all the elementary and middle schools.  On Leighton's day, there were 27 kids - 20 from elementary schools (like Leighton) and 7 from middle schools.  Again, Leighton was well prepared and very calm and confident.  He said he just wanted to get in the top 10.  He also was reluctant to get first or 2nd since those two go onto the Houston Public Media Spelling Bee - and that's televised.  Well, he got his wish to be in the top 10 ... and ended up in the top ONE!  He WON!  March 23 he will be in the Houston Public Media Spelling Bee, which is like a regional Bee with winners from several towns and cities in the area.

He was excited to get back to school to share his win with his best friends!
