11 laps!

Leighton's long awaited jog-a-thon was finally held yesterday after being cancelled last week due to the weather.  Yesterday was the perfect weather for the kids to run in and for the parents to watch and cheer in!

The kids had their 50 minute ancillary period set aside for the jog-a-thon, but they didn't run the whole time.  It took about 10 minutes to get all the Kindergarten classes set up on the track and then there was time left at the end for healthy snacks and water.  In total, they ran for only 20 minutes.  And it was a good thing for those sponsors who pledged a high amount (we know someone who was pledged $10 a lap by both parents and he ended up running 19 laps!!!) because the kids ran fast and hard!  Leighton ended up running 11 laps.  He was half way through the 12th when they called them in for snack.  5 laps around their track is a mile, so he ran over 2 miles in 20 minutes and I only saw him stop for a brief walk a couple times.  Most of the kids looked like they would have happily kept running, but there were a few that seemed pleased that it was over!

Here are the Leighton and some of his classmates in action:

And the little siblings!

And Leighton was SO brave and gave the owl a high five.  Maybe, just maybe, we can work our way up to not being completely terrified of characters and we can make it to Disney one day!
