Spring Break

My parents were here for the first part of Leighton's Spring Break, and then we were lucky to have some amazingly gorgeous days at the end of the week to spend some time outside (I always laugh when people ask if we are going away for Spring Break because it's usually such gorgeous weather here in March that I don't feel like we need to head anywhere else!).

Wednesday afternoon we walked to Godwin Park to meet up with Jenny and the kids and Michelle and the kids.  I didn't take my camera.  Oops!

On Thursday, the kids and I walked down to Godwin Park to meet up with Kim and the boys and Michelle and the girls in the morning.  I was prepared with a picnic lunch (even for me, which is unusual!) and snacks and water because I assumed we'd be there for a couple hours.  Well, after many "We are leaving in 5 minutes" warnings to the kids and then realizing we really had nowhere to go, Kim and I ended up being there ALL DAY with the kids.  For about 6 hours!  Different friends and acquaintances came and left, and we were still there.  We were the pre-lunch, lunch, after lunch, and pre-dinner crowd!  The kids played basketball, hung out on the hill, played at the playground, played in the water fountain (this was so comical - I think they played with this getting each other wet for a solid hour!), and played more basketball.  They would have happily stayed longer, but we were out of food and needing to think about dinner!  And, once again, I didn't take my camera.  Kim did, though!  And she posted pictures on her blog!

Friday we went with Kim, Kai, and Coley to the Sugarland Houston Museum of Natural Science.  We had never been to that one before, so it was fun to check it out.  It's small and manageable to do/see most of it in a short amount of time.  There was a lot for the kids to touch and play with, but we didn't pay extra for the dig pit (we're cheap!) or the other area you have to pay extra for.  After the museum, we went to the playground right behind it.  My friend Naomi had told me about it long ago, so I was glad we finally went.  There are some long, high slides built into the hill.  And it's right by the water so the kids had fun throwing in sticks and leaves and watching the turtle.  And we saw some (like, 3!) bluebonnets, so Leighton was so excited.  He was in a very 'take my picture doing this, take my picture over here' kind of mood.  Unfortunately, Riley got her hand in a pile of fire ants, but she was quickly treated with some Benadryl and managed to play some more.  The spots only reappeared a few days later looking swollen and angry and itchy.  Oh how I hate fire ants.  After we got home, I realized it was free Menchie's day thanks to another Rockets win, so I took the kids for ice cream!

  1. Those slides in the hillside look like lots of fun. And I love the photo of Leighton and Riley together in the flowers.
