The funny things they say: March edition

Early March
We're been working a little with Riley to get her to pronounce some sounds she doesn't say correctly - 'r' and 'l' and 't' in parts of words.  She has always called herself 'Yiyey' instead of 'Riley' and so after sounding it out to her a lot recently, she is attempting it, but now instead of 'Yiyey' she says something similar to 'Rawley'.

March 3
I was cooking and Riley came up behind me with the binoculars and pressed them right against me and says, "Ah!  Mommy, you have worms in your bum!"

March 3
We were paying and Riley told me, "Don't worry.  I will take an eye on her." instead of 'I will KEEP an eye on her'.

March 5
While we were getting the kids ready for bath/bed, Leighton says, "My brain is my penis' director." Roy replied, "You might find out differently when you are a teenager!"

March 6
I was trying to point Leighton out to Riley while he was out on the tennis court, and she said, "I can see his hair ….." and then a a few moments later, "There he is!"  I laughed that she spotted his hair first!

Week of March 10
Riley was sitting on my lap on our little ottoman and the lid kind of slid in a little bit.  She said, "Maybe it's because your big bum is too big!"

March 18
Leighton: Mommy did you just hear what Riley said?
Me: No, what?
Leighton: She said that people - her friends - are coming over just to see her nipples!

March 19
Tonight Riley said 'toothbrush' and 'toothpaste' for the first time instead of 'noosebrush' and 'noosepaste'.  Roy was out for dinner so Leighton and I got her on video to show him.

March 21
Today we were talking with our friends about silly things and we got on the topic of alligators, and Kim asked Leighton if she thought an alligator would want to eat him and if he'd taste sweet.  He says, "Well, I've licked my armpit before and I am sweet."  We all laughed, and then laughed even harder when he started trying to do it again.  Silly kid!

March 24
Today Riley and I were talking about when we lived in the Bronx and would play at our friend Darlys' house.  Riley was asking me what Leighton would do there and what was upstairs and downstairs.  I was explaining it all to her, and then she said, "And I would nap in your arms and you would give me milk."  I looked at her and asked if she remembered that, and she looked at me like I asked the most ridiculous question and said, "Yes."  Now, she may just be making the connections that she was a baby and babies have milk, but the way she said it was so convincing and creepy - but creepy in a good way!

March 24
Tonight Riley took her little stuffed polar bear over to show Leighton and said, "Say hello to my little friend."  Roy and I enjoyed that one!

March 28
I was telling Riley we needed to take something to Kim.  She kept asking why/when/where/etc and referring to 'him'.  I kept correcting her that that Kim is a lady so we say 'her' and not 'him'.  After several rounds of this I realized she was just pronouncing Kim as 'Him'.  So, I tell her to try K-K-K-K-immmmm.  She looks at me and says, "K-K-K-K-Himmmm.  It's okay Mommy.  We say thing different.  And that's okay.  People say things different."

March 30
On the way to and from Maeve's birthday party, Leighton was writing some songs and singing them to us.  He even helped Riley with one of her own.  Here was Leighton's (and our!) favorite that he came up with.  The words are cute, but the way he sang it was even better.
