We went to story time at Meagan's new HEB.
I took the kids to get the car washed. They love that 'event' because it means we get to sit inside eating popcorn while we watch the cars go through!
Riley went to a classmate's birthday party and was SO thrilled she could finally reach the pedals and ride the bikes around the track at Wonderwild.
We went to Lindsey & Charlie's for a day of swimming at their neighborhood pool and BBQing dinner at their new house in Katy. Lindsey did Riley's nails while we were there.
We went to Half Price Books to turn in the kids' July Reading Logs and to spend the store money they earn by doing so. They happily read in the car while I wen tot water the plants at the 'flooded house', as it is now referred to in our long list of previously referred to addresses!
We went back for another story time at Meagan's HEB.
The kids helped me carry home our few grocery items from Costco. We only buy what we can carry when we walk down!
Roy went away to Maine for a conference, and the kids and I spent lunch the first day at the soft opening of the new Noodles & Company restaurant. We could try any of the food for free and the kids had a blast! The kids couldn't wait to take Roy there another time. I thought the restaurant was great - good kid options and adult options.
And then I made them popcorn while we watched a movie in the afternoon after we swam.
The kids had a little dance party :)
We walked down to Costco for pizza and ice cream for dinner one night (I was lazy while Roy was away!).
We met Melana and Mia and Max for a morning at the zoo. We saw the Gorillas for the first time (although, I think I read one of the gorillas was from the Bronx Zoo, so would have seen that one before!!!) and splashed around.
Then we went to IKEA for some art, shopping, and dinner (Remember … I was lazy while Roy was away!).
We went to the last HEB story time of the summer.
And to Chipotle for dinner! Not only was I lazy, but we had lots of coupons to use up that the kids had earned with the summer reading programs! We walked there and on the way home, we walked the long way around the big block. We hadn't done that route before and had lots of fun.
We swam with Monica and Morgan and Landon and Logan a couple times.
And Leighton decided to write a letter to President Obama. Riley drew a letter for the First Lady.
We also went bowling with a group of friends. The free summer bowling was a great thing we signed up for this year!
Roy was back in time for Leighton's last basketball game of the season!
We went to the Children's Museum (thanks to another coupon the kids earned!) for the first time in a year.

And we swam and had a BBQ by the pool … until a massive thunderstorm appeared suddenly!
We were really lucky to get some Wal Mart vouchers for $75 per kid on behalf of an organization called Somebody Cares. They were offering them to a limited number of families who were flooded. The vouchers were intended for any school supplies or uniforms or clothing items the kids needed for back to school. I got the kids a bunch of things we needed - socks (I found some pretty fun ones! Leighton now has buyer socks to go with all his burger shirts!), water bottles, ballet uniform, clothes, a lunch bag, lunch containers, hair bows, a backpack, etc.
We had Leighton's Meet the Teacher day. The kids volunteered with me the few hours before his time. Riley worked as a 'greeter' with me, and Leighton helped at the supplies table. They were super!
Riley and I went to Sylvie's birthday party.
And we had another chip tasting for the Lays flavors this summer (we eventually found the 4th one but I don't have a picture!).
And then Leighton started school (but I will save that for a different post!). And Riley had her Orientation day!
She also had a play date with her friend Jack.
We went to the Dynamo game. The kids earned free tickets with the summer reading program at the HPL. We had such a great time and can't wait to go again. It was so nice to sit outside for the game in the evening, and there was a big fireworks display at the end! As is our usual routine, the first time we go somewhere, the kids can get something from the gift shop. Riley chose a necklace and Leighton chose a LEGO figure of one of the players. At half time, I treated myself to a delicious, frozen, bright Dynamo orange Margarita!
We ended the month with another trip to the Children's Museum to use up the last pass the kids got.

And then some Menchie's! We each got free Menchie's with our tickets from the Dynamo game because they scored off a corner kick! We also got to go out for lunch on a 2 for 1 deal at a place we'd never tried called Raising Cane's because they Dynamo scored 2 goals!

Wow what a busy month! Sure looks like lots of fun times.
