Well, we certainly didn't expect to have a snow day AGAIN in Houston only a month after the last one! We thought we'd be waiting a10 years! But on the weekend I started tracking the potential for some wintry weather, and it turned out that the kids ended up with TWO days off school due to dangerous road conditions. Unfortunately, the 1-3 inches that kept being predicted never arrived, but we had some snow falling and some icy-snowy wintry mix - and the best part was that it all happened during daylight hours this time so the kids could watch and we could go play outside. We spent two days going in and out, hunting icicles, catching snowflakes on our tongues, and playing 'ice hockey' with a mop and soda can, 'skating' on the frozen upper level of the parking garage, throwing snow in the pool and hot tub, and drinking hot chocolate!
It's still surprising to look at these screen shots from the weather forecast from yesterday:
H
ere are the happy kids!
It was a lovely treat of a 5 day weekend! Before the snow and ice arrived, the weather was nice enough for a few walks - to Costco a couple times (once in shorts even since it was sunny and warm!) and to a movie. We also stayed up late watching basketball games - well, Riley snuggled up on me and fell asleep both nights! We had wine with lunch and played games and watched movies and also got some work done. It was a super relaxing and enjoyable 5 days!
It got down to 21 last night and it's going to be another hard freeze tonight. I think it will be in the 60s and 70s on the weekend though, so the last of the remaining snow and ice will soon disappear. The weather here is crazy!
This is so unbelievable. Your weather and ours are almost the same at the moment. Unfortunately, we didn't get any snow days off from work or school. I'm so excited for Leighton and Riley to be able to experience winter in Houston.
ReplyDeleteCrazy - but fun! They must have brought some "snow seeds" back from Seattle with them ;)
