This is how we filled our days in November

I remember on December 1st, I said to Roy, "It's like November didn't happen."  It was crazy that somehow it went from Halloween to December in a blink of an eye.  It was a busy month and before I knew it, it was over!  This is why it was so busy ...

Leighton was still sick on the first day of November.  He did have energy to make his own butter though.  And then the lid slipped off and he got some buttermilk in the face!  And on the floor ...

Here were the Halloween cookies I made.  And some of Riley's Halloween haul!  She gave a bunch to her brother, too.

The first weekend in November, Riley's soccer season came to an end.  This was the team that Leighton had also been on and aged out of before Riley joined it.  Her coach's son, who started out in this league with Leighton, aged out after this season, too.  So it was the end of an era for us in this league with this team!

Leighton's soccer team entered the 'playoff' round.

My phone died after threatening to do so for well over a year, so I had to replace it.  And at the same time, we got one for Leighton!  Oh boy ... he's getting even more grown up!

Riley and I played around taking some pictures one day.

I was on the Book Fair committee at Riley's school, so I was at the school all day every day all week long.  Riley helped out during the late night and early morning that we had special events going on.  And I was able to go visit her at lunch, too.  During the week, Riley's class also had a Field Trip, so I went with them as a chaperone. And her class had a cute Friendsgiving lunch on the Friday.  It was nice to see her so much at her new school.

On the first weekend of Thanksgiving Break, we had a playdate with Olive at the park.  One of Leighton's soccer teammates met him to kick the ball around for a while, too.

Usually we have someone else around us at some point to take a photo for our holiday card for us, but timing just didn't work out this fall.  So we set the timer on my phone and took some pictures in our little outside area with that.  It wasn't the greatest photo, but with the time constraints, it was as good as it was going to get!  We also tried out a lot of the new features on my new phone's camera and took some other pictures ...

The weather was nice for a walk one day of the break, and I convinced/bribed the kids to go for a long walk with me.  We got frozen yogurt!

We went for a short Thanksgiving road trip for a few days.  It was all built around some restaurants we wanted to try out!

Day 1: We started with breakfast at Pecan Creek Grille here in Houston and then drove to Austin.  The weather was rainy and not conducive to playing at the park for a while like we had hoped.  So we just went for lunch instead!  We ate at the Texas Ham Company and the food was really great.  We talked with the owner/manager for a while and he gave us samples of all the different meats and sides and soups that they serve.  Everything was great and the people were very friendly.  We went to our hotel to check in and Roy stayed back to do some work while the kids and I walked to meet the Curtis girls for a little visit and treat.  It was really nice to see them!  For dinner we ended up switching our plans and just walking for pizza by the hotel at a Detroit style pizza place.  The atmosphere, and service, and food all were great!

Day 2: In the morning, we spent a while laughing at Roy and Riley and their paper 'guns' as they turned into Charlie's Angels.  Then it was time to get serious and check out of the hotel.  We stopped at Valentina's for brunch.  We had heard rave reviews from anyone we talk to about going here, so we had pretty high expectations.  Surprisingly, they were more than met!  The food was spectacular!  We set off for San Antonio, but stopped first in San Marcos for a couple hours of shopping at the outlets.  We had a late lunch at a Mexican restaurant in San Antonio and then went to check into our hotel.  After some relaxing time - and Riley wanting to do some working out at the fitness center - we made our way to the San Antonio Spurs game that night.  We had a really fun time.

Day 3: It was Thanksgiving Day and we planned to maybe go out for lunch somewhere, but in the end we just stayed at the hotel all day relaxing.  Riley went to the pool a couple times, we all went down to the fitness center for a while, we had a big breakfast in the hotel, snacks in the afternoon in our room, and the snacks at happy hour in the hotel plus some cereal later on for our Thanksgiving dinner!  I had bought a pumpkin pie but it was not very good (not surprising, I don't ever like store-bought pumpkin pies like that!).  It was a very relaxing and fun day to have no plans and no cooking!

Day 4: After breakfast in the hotel, we checked out and went to see the new Frozen II movie in a theater near by.  We all really liked it and were glad to have that as an activity since it was a rainy day.  We tried a burger place for lunch that wasn't very good.  But we made up for it with the most amazing churro place for dessert!  We will definitely go back here!  We drove downtown to the Riverwalk to check into a different hotel for our last night. Luckily for the city (and us!) the weather cleared up in time for the holiday lights boat parade on the Riverwalk.  We didn't buy the expensive tickets, but Riley and I spotted a little from the roof decks of our hotel and then we went for a walk and lucked out by catching the very tail end of the parade right by our hotel!  Perfect timing!  All the lights up in the trees looked really pretty and festive, too.  We grabbed some milk (and ice cream!) from a cute little grocery store and had cereal for a late dinner in the hotel room.  I also took Riley for a swim at the indoor pool - the outdoor pools and hot tubs were PACKED with people!

Day 5:  After breakfast in the hotel, we packed up and drove home.  It wasn't a very eventful day compared to the last few!  But it was an easy drive and a nice way to end our road trip!

And just like that, November was over!
