July 2020

July came and went as quickly as every other month lately ....

On Canada Day, Roy and Riley did some flag painting on wood.

We spent the morning of the 4th of July at the park.  Riley looks so cute in her hat.

I tried a new braid style for Leighton when we got home.

And then we did some BBQing and s'mores making.

I tried a double pony tail style for Leighton a few days later.

And Roy utilized Leighton's size to help him work out some back soreness!

Riley and I were happy to see the Rothko grounds opened up on one of our evening walks.

We also walked by Olive's house one night and she had fun spraying Riley with the hose!

Riley was wishing for a plain chocolate cake so she helped make one.

She also painted a new popcorn bowl that we took to get fired at the paint your own pottery place.  Olive's mom had ordered each of the girls an item to paint that was delivered right to our doorstep.

There were some crazy storm clouds brewing when we were walking home.  They looked way darker in person than in the photos.

Leighton wanted to make a sugar cookie in a mug recipe he had seen online.

We got some heavy rain one afternoon, so Riley went to jump in muddy puddles!

And there lots of lingering puddles the next morning!

Live sports returned!  We have had lots of baseball and basketball on the TV, laptops, and projector on the way every day since then.

Riley bought herself a magnifying glass, so it came in handy to look at a weird bug on our window one day!

Grandma and Papa spoiled Leighton and Riley with some Christmas in July fun.  Thanks Grandma and Papa!

Riley likes stretching and doing her own version of yoga outside in the driveway.

She was very excited to have somewhere to cool down.  She misses real swimming pools, but this summer, we will take what we can get!  We are happy we have a square cement area outside Leighton's bedroom to fit the little pool.

After a long time, we met up with Olive and her mom for another outside play date at the Menil.  The girls were fascinated by this squirrel.  I've recently learned that it is called 'splooting' when animals lay like this to cool their body temps.

Riley liked doing tricks on her scooter during our evening walks.

The light was so nice one evening when we were walking.

I spotted this tray in the window of Pier 1 Imports when I was walking by with Riley one day.  I was so excited!  I had been coveting it online for several months and thought they were completely sold out!  We walked up and bought it ... and another one and some pretty glass plates for Riley ... and carried them all the way home!  It was a fun time and a good workout!  One day we will be able to entertain again and I can use them!

And once again I found some funny photos on my phone after Riley and Olive had their FaceTime playdates!

  1. I am craving s'mores. Well, I'm craving just about anything sweet, but haven't had chocolate in a very long time. I could just eat the graham crackers and pretend. Love the Pier One platter. I don't remember where Pier One is.
