We have had a few cooler days in the last couple of weeks, and I've laughed at myself for even using the word 'cold' because really, this isn't cold. I've lived in places that get cold. The real kind of cold. You know, the kind where the moisture in your breath instantly freezes when you exhale and create icicles in your nose hairs. Where frost bite warnings aren't an unheard of part of the weather forecast. Where ice will freeze the wheels of your car to the road. And the temperature for the day has the word 'minus' before the number. Yeah, THAT is cold. So, this can't be cold. Right? But, it IS! Because it's all relative, and since the norm lately is comfortably hovering in the mid 70s, when the mercury plummets to the 40s and 50s it's suddenly time to pull out the wool socks, steaming cups of tea, and the list of indoor activity ideas.
Luckily for me, these cold snaps are short lived (what's that saying again? Oh, right - God bless Texas!). Last week we had a few chilly days and then we've been back to wearing short sleeved shirts and spending hours at the playground again. Winter in Texas is a pleasure! We've been enjoying lots of time outside in the yard with the kids on the weekends. Here are some photos from the last few weeks.
We spent one Christmas in Texas when I was a teenager, and I admit it was a little weird. We left Saskatchewan at -35 celsius/-31F and arrived in Texas to +35 c/95 F. WOWSA!! It was a great holiday though!! It is a pretty nice place to be in winter.
ReplyDeleteIt is a little weird. But a good weird!!! Hope you got some snow in Calgary for Xmas!
