We've done so many vacations now that our early morning departures for the airport are pretty smooth, especially now that the kids have managed to create the 'tradition' of eating breakfast at the airport - means we don't need to worry about it at home!
The flight was one of the longer ones we've done since it was nonstop all the way to the west coast. We all kept busy, and before we knew it, we were landing in Oakland! When we got to the rental car center, they told us they didn't have the size of car we reserved and asked if we wanted a free upgrade to a convertible. The kids were pretty excited about it, but it didn't fit our suitcases. So, they ended up upgrading us to a small, luxury SUV instead. It worked out much better - the convertible was 2 door and low, and I like sitting up higher and for 2+ weeks, a 4 door vehicle is more convenient!
We drove straight from the airport to the Oakland Athletics game. It was less than a 10 minute drive! They were done batting practice, but some players were still warming up on the field. I took the kids down close and one of the security guards gave Leighton a ball that a pitcher Leighton liked had just thrown. We enjoyed the game and seeing the stadium and experiencing the crowd!
After the game, we walked next door to see the Golden State Warriors (old) stadium. It was fun to check it out, and it also gave us a chance to let a lot of the traffic leave the parking lot.
After the game, we drove to West Sacramento for the night. It was an easy drive - and we only had one minor detour to a bank machine when we realized I had left all the cash I had taken out for the trip in my other wallet at home!
We were all tired by the time we got to the hotel, so we just walked across the parking lot for a quick and easy dinner.
