Then we met up with Andy, Kyle, Laila, and Gavin. We hadn't seen them in a few years, so it was great to all be back together! The kids got a kick out of the robot security guard ... who's kidding?! We all did! We walked down to Old Sacramento and ate brunch/lunch by the river (but inside and not on the patio because it was 97 degrees out!), tried some delicious mini donuts I had read about, squished a penny, and got a quick tree ornament souvenir. Then it was time to say goodbye to the Baums. And we found out that they ended up parked RIGHT in front of us on the street! SO random! We wanted to walk to see the Capitol Building, and by the time we go to the stairs in front, we decided we were super hot and tired and didn't NEED to go inside or walk around to see anymore.

| In case you're wondering, that is NOT our lighter in on the table, it was there when we sat down! |
It was a fairly short drive to Fairfield, but the traffic was heavy so it took longer than anticipated. The kids were VERY excited by the oatmeal cookies at check in (I was, too, actually - they were very tasty!), and Riley was very keen to swim at the pool a bit. We opted to not go for a meal out and instead found a Trader Joe's close by for some groceries to eat a simple, cold meal in the hotel room instead.
