Gardening - Part 2

The beans and tomatoes are really doing well, and the carrots are up, too.  It's so exciting to see our plants sprouting and growing!  However, it is too bad not all of our plants are a cause for such excitement.  One of the lavender plants is really struggling.  Remember the pictures of the flooded yard?  It rained like that again and the pot got far too much water inside.  I failed at getting enough out though and chose instead to re-pot it.  But I think I may have procrastinated waited too long.  No quick turnaround yet, but I am still hoping we can nurse it back to health.  I think the flowers in the hanging basket would be happier in a spot where they get more direct sun, so I might need to put them out in the yard in the mornings for some sunbathing.

The kids love being outside in the yard. Leighton is a great help with the gardening.  He loves to plant and water and weed.  He was super excited on Monday when we found a worm under a pile of leaves I was bagging (I did 3 bags by myself before giving up.  It really is a 2 person job.  Especially when it's windy.  And your kids like to move the bag.) and asked me to touch it.  I suggested he try instead.  At first it was gentle, tentative taps.  But soon, that poor worm was being treated like a pet.  And a ball.  And a toy.  It was put from one area of the yard to the next.  It was tossed in the air.  It was put in the bird bath.  And it would have gone for a ride through the sand and water toy funnel, but I suggested to Leighton that he give the worm a rest and put it back in some dirt.

Speaking of dirt.  Riley likes to get dirty.  Really dirty.  And sometimes she loses her boots without noticing, apparently.  She was more than happy to go put it back on when I suggested it though.
