See, I told you there would be many parts to this gardening adventure!
First thing this morning, I took the kids to the back yard to play while I raked and re-raked my leaf piles to get ready fro Roy to help me bag them up. While I was raking, some movement caught my eye and I was pretty surprised at the latest creature inhabiting our yard!
Roy set up the lawn mower and took Leighton to go get gas for it. They (Roy on the real one and Leighton on the plastic one) mowed our front yard and then the neighbors' as well.
When Roy went to see something in the backyard, he found our turtle friend trying to escape. It walked right out to the gate and waited for us to let him/her out! It then meandered through the neighbors' yard and I lost sight of it from there.
We bought a few herbs and I potted them - cilantro, basil, dill, and parsley. They were all a little droopy and dry at the store, so I hope they perk up a bit!
While I was potting the herbs in the back, Roy tried out the leaf blower in the front. Leighton thought it was pretty fun and did some blowing, too.
Riley did a lot of playing, getting dirty, and 'helping'. Here she is taking a well-deserved rest!
We also washed the last of the outside windows, and right before dinner, we bagged up about 2/3 of the leaves.
Very productive, I think!
i love the turtle!
ReplyDeleteWell, we still have snow that will last at least another month, so no yard work for us yet. People who are so inclined are starting seeds indoors so they are ready to plant when the garden is ready.
ReplyDeleteYour herbs will perk up. Transplant trauma always makes things look a little sad.
And I love the turtle too!
The basil really perked up. The cilantro? Not so much!
ReplyDeleteI wonder where our turtle has gone. I hope it made it to where it was trying to get to.
We finished the rest of the bags of leaves today and mowed back there. It looks like an entirely different yard. So much more inviting. The kids were running and playing all over the place.
