Name That Book

When Leighton was in Pre-K, the librarian told us about the Name That Book competition that HISD does.  We were eager for Leighton to get a chance to participate ever since!  He studied hard for the tryouts in January, and was so excited to make the team.  He had the highest score, so he was chosen to be the team captain.  The team met once and week, and we also read the books and studied at home (Riley studied with him and was really impressive!).

The way the competition works is that the students read about 30 books (for the K-2 team it is picture books and for the 3-5 team it is chapter books), and then together as a team have 45 seconds to answer which book a quote comes from.

On Friday, April 1st, it was finally competition day!  It was all very official, and all of the kids did so well.  It is a lot of pressure!  Our team came in 2nd, and they were SO proud of themselves!  Leighton has been wearing his bracelet and hanging onto his medal every since!

The school usually only has 4th and 5th graders on the 3-5 team, but if we are lucky it will get changed for next year and Leighton can try out.  Otherwise, he will be ready when he's in 4th grade!
