I guess it's been a while since I posted with an update on the house. Things continue to move along quickly!
Lots of built ins have been completed, including the fireplace, which I am SO excited about!! And the two closets were made into one in the guest room. A couple weeks ago all the interior doors were installed. I am so happy with our choice and love them! We also ordered our sinks, but they were delivered to our contractors so I haven't seen them yet!
This past week, the primer went up on the walls and the ceilings, the kitchen cabinets got built, some of the cabinets and built ins started getting primed and painted, and the tiles started going into the bathrooms. I finalized my paint color choices and also ordered our new front door (definitely over budget, but really strong and really cool looking!) and some boring things like bathroom fans and plain white countertops for some of the rooms. Roy has also been working on the pool the last couple weeks. And the biggest news is that we gave our official notice to move out of the apartment by June 13th! So the weekend of the 11th and 12th we are hoping the house is ready for us!
Today we went and picked out new kitchen granite - a slab of Alpinus White. Note that this was NOT in the plans or budget! But, when the cabinet maker went to build the kitchen on Friday, he measured the old granite and realized that it was cut and shaped crooked to fit the old crooked walls and cabinets. So, it couldn't be re-used. It was exciting (but expensive!) to pick our new granite. I guess this means we could have made layout changes to the kitchen, but it was far too late to do that!
This coming week, I think there will be painting of walls, more cabinets painted, tile work completed, and floors purchased and delivered. The new windows still need to be purchased, and I need to buy ceiling fans and the last light fixtures we need for inside the closets. And a chandelier to surprise Riley for her room!! Leighton gets all the exciting built ins, so it's only fair she gets something, too!
We're getting there!!

This is fantastic progress. The fireplace looks great, and I really like the big wall shelving. You can probably sell the old kitchen granite to someone who needs a slightly smaller piece. It is very exciting that you have a date to move out of the apartment even if the house is not 100% complete.
ReplyDeleteWe might save the granite to use for some sort of outdoor kitchen prep area sometime down the line.
