Riley's birthday

This year we asked the kids if they wanted to have for their birthdays and gave a few different scenarios - a trip, a traditional party with less gifts from us, a friend for a play date and dinner and a movie, or more money for us to buy them presents but no party.  We had lots of conversations about it and in the end, we decided with Riley to have a few play dates with some friends and then we would buy her the presents she really wanted.

On the Friday before her birthday, we went for ice cream with the Gentry kids and then spent the afternoon at their house having lunch and swimming and playing (and the girls washed Daly's car!).

Riley had her soccer practice in the rain that evening.  We took some freezies to share with the team to celebrate.

Saturday, Riley's game was rained out, but we met the Meyer family for donuts in the morning and then Riley went for a play date with Morgan for a few hours.

Sunday, we opened a couple of Riley's gifts first thing and then ran some errands, including Target where I got the kids a smoothie and churro for breakfast!  When Roy got back home from his work trip to Calgary, we went to Grimaldi's for her favorite meal!  When we got home, it was birthday dessert time.  Riley has decided she doesn't really like icing anymore so she asked for a plain vanilla cake with no icing.  I was so lazy, I left it in the silicone pan and stuck in the candles!

Hard to believe this girl is EIGHT!!!!

  1. Eight is definitely grown up. Looks like a fun day filled with everything she wanted.

  2. I love birthdays that last several days. But I don't understand not liking icing!
