Big girl now

Riley is very proud to tell you, "Me big girl now.  No cry."  We aren't sure where this came from, but it is shocking us over and over again in how often she is applying this new 'big girl' attitude.

1st SHE requested medicine when she had a fever 2 weeks ago.  This is from the gagging, refusing, screaming, hiding, freaking out little person that she usually becomes at the mention of medicine.

Then SHE suggested a hair cut when we were taking Leighton in for his a couple weeks ago.  She didn't end up following through, but there were no tears and she just calmly informed me she'd do it next time.  And she has been discussing ever since how it's going to play out, including the lollipop and prize at the end!

The kicker though?  SHE came up with the idea and asked to go to the babysitting area at the gym after playgroup a couple weeks ago.  She marched herself in and didn't bat an eye when I left.  We had attempted this before.  It was a no-go.  Now?  She's all over it.  Keeps asking to go back.  She is never wanting to leave when I go to pick her up and wants to stay longer.  I even got to go have a morning workout the other day while she played!

And on Monday when I had to take both kids to the Dr (met with tears and protest only a few weeks earlier), she was a superstar.  Before we went, she fully agreed that we should go and get something to help her get better.  And then when we were there, the big girl attitude continued.  Not upset when the nurse weighed her.  No issues showing the new,  unknown Dr what we needed to show her.  Not one single tear!  She told me later it was because Leighton was there with her.  Very sweet.

The kids are on their first ever course of antibiotics, and as noted above, Riley is usually far from a fan of medicine.  This time though, SHE told us she would take it without crying.  Night one was not tear free, but since then, other than a little protesting and hesitation, she's done many doses over the past few days without much in the way of dramatics!  Who is this girl?!?!

Today we went to visit the classroom where the pre-K3 class is in Leighton's new school where she will be attending next year.  Before we went, she asked if she could stay and was a little disappointed when I told her she needed to wait til next fall!  Once we were there, she wasn't crazy clingy and wasn't frantic or full of panic when asking if I would stay with her (there was never any plan for me to leave her - I was just filling out some paperwork!) - I was very impressed.  I am hoping that maybe, just MAYBE, we won't have a complete meltdown drop off scenario for months on end next year!!

  1. Wow! This is quite a change. Goodbye two and hello three (what my mother called "trusting threes"). And how did Mommy feel about the haircut idea?

  2. The haircut will just be a trim - and she needs it! Her ends are pretty dry and it is the only cause of tangles/knots, I think.
