I really enjoyed coming up with different holiday activities to put in the advent calendar for each day. Here is a list (and some photos, of course!) of what we were up to!
Dec 1 Wrote letters to Santa (Leighton asked for a remote control T Rex, a stuffed reindeer with a nose that lights up, and Disney Headbands. Riley asked for a pink purse with a pink handle, a pink necklace, and a pink phone.)
Dec 2 Go to the library to check out holiday books
Dec 3 Decorate the fridge and freezer like snowmen/snowwomen (Riley insisted that hers needed pink eyelashes when we were talking about it on the way home! Leighton cut out and taped his up all by himself. I cut out things for RIley but she did all the taping on her own.)
Dec 4 Listen to Christmas music in the bath
Dec 5 Watch the Rockefeller Plaza tree lighting from the night before (I love you, DVR)
Dec 6 Make decorations to decorate bedroom doors
Dec 7 Make peppermint marshmallows (from scratch - NOT dipping marshmallows in peppermints as Leighton and Roy thought we'd be doing!) and do a hand print gift for Grandma and Papa.
Dec 8 Go get the tree
Dec 9 Buy eggnog to drink and have it while decorating the tree
Dec 10 Re-decorate the tree and read Christmas carol books before bed (one old one and one new one!)
Dec 11 Have a red and green dinner
Dec 12 Christmas craft
Dec 13 Take a drive to look at Christmas lights at night
Dec 14 Family holiday play date at Lindsey & Charlie's
Dec 15 Make fake snow to play in
Dec 16 Christmas craft at Bellaire Library
Dec 17 Make thumbprint reindeer Christmas cards
Dec 18 Kids' choice day! More crafts, egg nog, reading Christmas carols, etc
Dec 19 Decorate gingerbread houses at Bellaire Library
Dec 20 Leighton's class Christmas party and Zoo Lights
Dec 21 Salt dough thumb print ornament
Dec 22 Make sugar cookies to decorate with sprinkles
Dec 23 Drive in River Oaks to see the lights
Dec 24 Traditional bike ride around the tree with Daddy at the Bellaire train playground and trying out the holiday flavors and spoons at Menchie's

You are so clever. I love the decorated fridge and freezer idea. There was not a decoration in sight at our house other than red and green hand towels in the downstairs bathroom.
ReplyDeleteI love the fact that Riley is wearing a sun dress to the Zoo Lights at night. You couldn't do that in the Bronx!
And I love the building of family traditions. That is definitely what makes the holiday so special.
Glad our fridge and freezer are white in this house!
Deletei love the fridge and freezer too!
