A few weeks ago we had a plan for our day that had to change, so as a Plan B we decided to head to the zoo for the first time in a long time. However, when we got there, the exits were blocked and there was traffic everywhere, so we diverted toward Roy's parking garage to try to make a new plan. As we were passing, Leighton saw the giant chess pieces set up and Riley saw the giant fountains and they asked to go play there, so that quickly became Plan C! By the time we got the car parked and got out of the garage, someone else had come to play, so Roy thought quickly and came up with Plan D - walk past the fountains and go see the miniature train village in the children's hospital lobby. The kids loved pressing the buttons to make the trains and other parts move. All the little details were so impressive and fun to look at.
When we were leaving, the kids spotted the playground on the property, and it was empty so we stopped to play for a little while.
We did make it back to the chess set and it was available for the kids to move around.
Leighton really wanted to go somewhere to play soccer, but we also thought it would be fun to go try somewhere new for ice cream, so we gave him the chance (without Riley hearing!) and he chose soccer. So, we went to a playground we had never been to before close to the Med Center and explored. Leighton and Roy played a lot of soccer while Riley and I played on the playground.
It was such a fun day of doing completely new things, and so we decided to continue the trend the following day and went to Memorial Park for the first time. We spent several hours playing soccer, playing at the playground, and having snacks under the shade of the tree.
How unlike you to be so spontaneous...but good to know that it is possible and results in so much fun.
ReplyDeleteI know - look at me and all the spontaneity! Although, this is pretty low risk decision making and plan changing!
