The kids were out of school the week before Memorial Day this year, so the long weekend ended up being their first weekend of summer vacation!
On Sunday we planned to meet up with Rachel and Arun and the kids at a park to BBQ and play. Luckily I went online to double check the directions because we found out that the park was closed due to flooding. Rachel and I started looking for a Plan B and found that many places were closed or too soggy due to the flooding. We eventually found one place that we thought would be good, but when we arrived, we found all the playground equipment was torn down for improvements, and the ground was pretty saturated in some areas and full of fire ants in others. All of the shaded tables and BBQs were taken, so we decided to find a Plan C. As we were driving away, we decided to just head to our apartment to use the BBQ and pool there. Luckily it wasn't busy at all. The biggest disappointment for the kids was not getting to make s'mores over the coals, so I went upstairs and did up a big tray of them the oven! It wasn't rustic over the fire (and I didn't get to try out my new tongs!), but nobody complained!!
The next day was free Frosty day at Wendy's. We took the kids to the one close to Memorial Park to grab a treat before playing some soccer.
When we go out to eat with the kids, it seems like we always go to the same places, so when I got an email with a coupon for a spaghetti place, we thought we'd give it a try. We never go out for pasta! The food was ok (servings were generous, but not the greatest food I've eaten ... hence why we never go out for pasta!), but the place was fun and the kids enjoyed it. Riley really wanted to write her name on the wall and to investigate the upstairs where other people were going, so we did that. They were pretty excited for their free treat on the way out, too!
