We got up on Friday morning and packed all our things back into the car. We had a long list of things to see and wanted to be sure to get to all of them! We had planned for something for everyone on this trip.
The first stop was for Roy and was at Midwest Street Cars, the shop of two of the main guys from the show Street Outlaws.
Next we went to Oklahoma City University to see the Miss America statues and Hall of Queens. This stop was for me and Riley!
Then we drove right downtown to park the car for a few hours. We walked toward the OKC Memorial and stopped in at the Banjo Museum to press a penny quickly. The woman invited the kids to play some of the banjos in the front room before we left.
The Memorial was very well done and very moving. We didn't go inside the museum. There is so much to see outside and everything has so much meaning and significance. It is listed here, and they describe it much better than I would.
From the Memorial, we walked down to the Myriad Botanical Gardens so the kids could run around in the Children's Garden for a while. I'd love to go back when everything is blooming in the summer and to see the inside area as well.
We went for lunch and then to the Chesapeake Arena to the OKC Thunder team store. We knew that Leighton would love to go there. There was a game that night, but for logistical road trip reasons, we couldn't stay for it.
We quickly stopped to see all the beach balls set out for St Patrick's Day on the Riverwalk before we needed to get in the car. There was more to see and do that we didn't have time for, so we will have to go back. The city was so clean and not busy at all. It was nice to visit!
We got in the car and started out for Tulsa along the route of the old Route 66.
We had to stop for milkshakes at Braum's after seeing the signs for them all along the highway for 2 days! They were very good!
After arriving in Tulsa, we relaxed in the hotel room for a bit watching basketball and then walked over to the Arts District to see if we could find Riley a little souvenir. We weren't successful, but we were able to walk to the Center of the Universe along the way - and it is nicely to see with the lights at night, so that worked out well! What is the Center of the Universe you ask? Google it!!!
We then walked for some pizza for dinner. It was warm and we sat outside on the patio. It was so lovely!
By the time we finished dinner, it had dropped about 10 degrees (and then it dropped another 20 or so overnight to make it very chilly in the morning). After a bit more basketball watching, we all fell asleep. Leighton was so tired, he even decided to sleep while the TV was still on - that NEVER happens!!!
I always say that Hills is "the middle of nowhere and the center of the universe." I looked it up on Google. I still think Hills is the center of the universe.
