I wasn't sure if we were going to get a chance for our annual strawberry picking adventure this year because I thought we waited too long - we've always gone in April, but last year we learned that March before Spring Break might be better. But, the weather cooperated and the Spring Break crowds must not have picked everything because we were able to pick the best berries yet! They were huge and red and abundant, and almost none were rotten or covered in bugs or dried up - totally opposite to last year! I had called a few days earlier and they told me it was good picking, and they were right! We were there for only a short time before our buckets were completely full!
Today I was looking for recipes I've made with our berries in the past, and enjoyed looking back at the past 6 years of berry picking and how much the kids have grown! Click on each year if you want a little trip down memory lane as well!

I made these strawberry scones today ... mmmmmm ....
I also made some strawberry oatmeal bars and will make some muffins tomorrow. The strawberries this year are so good that they aren't turning bad super fast in the fridge, which is great!
I took a stroll down strawberry picking memory lane...fun to see the kids grow and change. Riley was really little that first year. I took some strawberries out of the freezer last week when I made vanilla ice cream. They were so good and such a wonderful reminder of good things to come from the garden (not our garden, mind you, but thanks to the generosity of those around us.
ReplyDeleteThose strawberries look fantastic! I'm sure they have much more flavor than the ones we get at the grocery store.
