Art Car Parade

When we first moved here, our neighbor, Billy, told us about the Art Car Parade.  At that time, Riley was still napping and we had no idea where lots of places were, so we didn't go.  I am not sure what our excuse was last year, but this year it finally was clear to me what a huge thing it is here in Houston. And to make it even more exciting, Leighton's school entered a car, and all of the kids had a hand in decorating it in different capacities.  I had some super cute photos of the kids with the drill putting on the CDs but they got lost in my never-ending phone saga!

The week before the big event, the Art teacher arranged for a few of the cars to come by the school for a mini parade.  It was also the first time the kids got to see their car completed.  It was super exciting and crazy loud!  Leighton took care of Riley when she got a bit overwhelmed with the crowd and the noise.  What a good big brother!

On the weekend, Roy had to work, but Pauline and Mikkel took me & the kids with them to see the real deal.  I can't remember how many entrants there were in the parade, but we only stuck around for the first 150 or so.  It was highly entertaining!

The school won 2nd place in the Youth Division!  And they will remove all the discs and start with a new theme for next year's parade.  I'm looking forward to going again - I just need to remember this awesome shady and less populated spot we found to sit in!
