July was busy with summer camps and our vacation, and we kept August full of lots of fun as well! We spent a lot of time watching Olympics, going to sports games, and eating a lot of burgers! Here's a brief look at our last month of summer ...
We went to watch the US Men's Olympic Basketball Team in an exhibition match against Nigeria a few days before they were off to Rio to compete.
We met Monica and the kids for a super fun and cheap day! I think we were out for over 7 or 8 hours! And for $13 we did the following:
- $1 movie ($3 for the three of us plus $4 for half price popcorn)
- kids eat free lunch at IKEA ($4 for mine) and ice cream cones ($2)
- a few hours of jumping at Pump It Up using the Groupon I had gotten earlier in the summer
Riley and Leighton had another cooking class at HEB. They made a red pepper and tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwiches.
We went to the Astros vs Blue Jays game. Riley stuck with cheering for the Astros, but Leighton was feeling very Canadian and rooted for the Jays!
We went on various outings to run errands, including several trips to Target, as always. The kids were having fun trying on hats and scarves and insisted we take a picture with the Target (fake) dog!
We spent a little time at a playground one (HOT) morning.
And then we drove down to Baybrook Mall for the LEGO Americana tour to see the 10 big LEGO monuments. It was impressive to see them!
I was pretty impressed that I had seen all but one of the real ones in person! And for fun - look at cute Leighton at the real Liberty Bell on our first visit to Philadelphia in 2010 when I was still pregnant with Riley!
For lunch we went to try a new Grimaldi's location.
And when we got home, the kids built their LEGO take home.
It's hard to believe, but we only walked to Costco once this summer (I think we walked at least twice a week last summer!). We celebrated with ice cream and smoothies!
We went to a French cafe for breakfast before taking the kids to the movie on our anniversary.
We had the last cooking class at HEB, and Landon and Morgan signed up too!
And look how cute my little cleaning helper is! She needed her sunglasses since the sun was coming in so bright through the window she was cleaning!
The last HEB story time of the summer included a touch tank from The Fish Gallery - a bonus since we hadn't made it to their story time this summer!
We had a play date with Luke and Kathryn. The girls had a cute tea party!
We had a playdate with The Matheisen and Nelson boys.
The kids were super excited to recreate their meal from cooking class for Daddy.
We went to a winery for a grape stomping event. It was fun to pick the grapes and then stomp them! We all got to make a t-shirt and the kids got ice cream and we got sangria. Roy & I did a wine tasting, too :)
We tried to watch the Dynamo play, but shortly after we arrived, it poured rain for hours and eventually we put on our emergency rain ponchos and waded through the giant puddles and went home!
We had a fun day checking out things in the city we'd never done before. We started with lunch at Stanton's, a burger place we saw on a TV show. Then we were off to the Art Car Museum, Donovan's Park, and donut ice cream sandwiches.
The kids and I went to the school to help organize school supplies one day, and then we went back for Meet the Teacher and the kids helped out even more.
Before school started we went to Galveston for the sandcastle competition. It was so fun to see! We also found a new place for treats where they do taffy pulling and serve giant ice cream cones!
The kids had their first day of school:
The kids were super excited to see the red balls outside Target had been repainted like Pokeballs!
On the weekend, we met Luke & Duniazed and the kids at Buffalo Bayou park, which we had never been to!
And that was the end of August!
