Discovery Green

When we were coming here to visit in June, I did a bunch of internet searching for things to see, places to eat, etc and came across a park in downtown Houston called Discovery Green.  It sounded like a fun place to visit with kids because there is a story time once a week and fountains to play in.  We didn't make it on that trip, but the other day a friend mentioned she goes regularly with her kids and it re-sparked my interest in going.  Leighton overheard me talking about it and his interest was also sparked.  Or, rather, fully ignited.  He wouldn't stop asking to go!  So, we went today to make him stop asking us about it satisfy my curiosity.

I am happy to report that it was well worth the wait.  We had a really nice time.  There is a small playground, the fountains, a pond/lake with kayaking, green space for playing and picnics, and misting sculpture that wasn't open today.   The area where they have story time on Tuesdays was busy with a hula hoop exercise class and yoga while we were there today.

We started off at the playground but Leighton was eager to get wet, so we changed the kids into their bathing suits and headed to the fountain area.  Riley was cautious at first, but soon got into it and was begging for more and more when they'd turn off.

We had a relaxing picnic lunch, and I made the kids jump up and down for me so I could see if I could learn to take an in focus picture of a jumping child.  Success!  Well, not completely.  I kind of cut off their heads in a couple shots ;)

Riley made sure to blow kisses goodbye to our picnic spot before we left to spend a few more minutes back at the playground before heading home.

I hope to return with the kids during the week for the story time and more fountain fun.  They also have music some weekday lunch times and evenings as well as family friendly movies, so I assume we will find other reasons to go back.

    1. Riley is *almost* able to get both feet off the ground at the same time. She is very close!
