Because we were so busy with our egg hunt and splashing in the pool on Sunday, we didn't get a chance to color eggs or have our usual Easter dinner. So, yesterday while Riley napped, Leighton and I had a chance to dye the eggs. I had boiled them the day before, so they were all ready to go. The little kit I bought wasn't as good as the one we used last year (note to self, instead of spending $1 at the dollar store, splurge at Target or Michaels and go for the $3 kit instead!). The magic crayon didn't work and the colors didn't want to stay on the eggs. But we had fun, and that's what matters!
After the eggs were finished, Leighton decided that they each represented a different part of 'space'. The yellow was the sun, the green was Earth, the blue was the sky, and although I've heard him explain this about 10 times in the last day and a half, I will admit I am unsure of the three pink/purple ones. I think he was just calling them 'space' ... but I could be completely wrong. I have a vague recollection of another planet. I will have to ask him tomorrow. And I can already tell you how the conversation will go. I will show him the picture and he will give a big sigh and repeat it to me in a tone that say,s "Don't you ever listen to me?" A tone that he learned from me on such occasions when he has to ask me to repeat something I KNOW I've already told him a hundred million times already :)
These beautiful eggies accompanied us to Douniazed's for a play date today. We always end up there for lunch so I thought it was time I contribute. And I knew Leighton was excited me to make the deviled egg chickies that I made last year at Easter. I didn't get a picture of them today, but you can just trust me that they didn't look too different than these ones from last year!
While we were there today, the kids also had a chance to smash open some confetti Easter eggs that she had purchased for Sunday and got forgotten in the fun (and mojitos!).
The clean up crew was extremely impressive. I might say that they enjoyed the clean up more than the smashing!
And, finally, tonight, I made scalloped potatoes, ham, and green beans for dinner. Mmmmmmmmmmm Easter!
I think that about does it for this multi-event holiday, so I think I will just treat myself to a Mini Egg or two and call it a night!
haha the clean up crew! funny... i was just reading my 'devil comes to dinner' post the other day and your comment about never having made deviled eggs - glad to see that's changed! your easter dinner sounds delish (you wouldn't believe me if i told you what i had for mine...)
ReplyDeleteLeighton LOVES deviled eggs. Riley won't try them. I want to do some avocado ones soon.
ReplyDeleteNow you need to tell me what you had!
lol! i'll send pictures ;)
ReplyDeleteMore cuteness...and what good helpers. The deviled egg chicks are great. Let's see, what did we have for dinner on Sunday? Ummm...steak and baked potatoes which is not very Eastery, but then that is a holiday that I never got into much other than the chocolate and making Ukrainian eggs with the then Baldwin-Ciok family (the eggs are still on the piano). But I get brownie points for having actually raised baby chicks (and turkeys and pigs and ducks and geese and rabbits).
ReplyDeleteYes, you get your brownie points :)
DeleteI was just thinking about the Ukranian eggs the other day. I am impressed they have lasted that long. Wow. I was also thinking about trying to find a recipe for Kruschiki some time. Maybe that can be a goal for next Easter!
I have Ed Ciok's recipe for Chruscik:
Delete2 cups flour
2 eggs
4 egg yolks
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/4 cup butter
1 jigger rum
Add salt to eggs and beat until thick and lemon-colored. Add sugar, butter and rum and continue to beat. Fold in flour and knead until the dough blisters. Roll thin, cut into strips. Slit each piece in center and pull one end through slit. Fry in hot fat until lightly browned. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Oh, yay! It's on the to-do list for next year for sure!
