When we were still living in NYC, Leighton was going to school Mon-Fri full days, so when Riley would take her nap I got some (much needed, much appreciated, much anticipated) MOMMY TIME! Since moving to Houston and having Leighton home with me, the child-free moments are few and far between. But, this past week was a treat for me because I was all alone in silence on TWO separate occasions. That's right. TWO!
The first was on Monday. Leighton was crazy tired, and I informed him that when Riley napped he had to take a rest. Note I did not say nap. Just rest. Even so, information such as this is usually met with some serious negotiation on his part, but on this day he was so exhausted he didn't even argue when I suggested he relax on the couch for 10 minutes while I finished something up after we ate lunch. He cuddled up with Bear and within moments, this is what happened:
I grabbed my camera to make sure to document such a rare occurrence, emailed Roy to ask his opinion on how long I should let him sleep, and then prepared to settle in for a little nap of my own. I should have known it was too good to be true though. Riley woke up right then. But, it was truly a lucky day for me and she snuggled on my lap as we sat on the chair next to Leighton and the three of us slept some more (well past the time either of them should be napping if we want them to go to sleep at night at a decent time, oops!).
My second date with solitude came on Wednesday. A big thank you to Liat for having Leighton over to play with Mihal while Riley napped. This provided me with almost 2 full hours of time all by myself!
Ooh I am so happy for you! Hannah hasn't napped since she was 11 months. Urgh.
ReplyDeleteWow - 11 months?!?! Hopefully she treats you to excellent sleep at night to make up for it!
