Until this week.
When I went to settle Riley back to sleep one time the other night, the little guy decided to pay us a visit. Roy spotted him on the patio and grabbed his camera. Battery flat. So he grabbed his Blackberry and snapped this very convincing photo (that he is very proud to share with you all!) of it walking away.
You see it, right?! I wish I had a video to include here of Roy explaining where exactly the possum's tail and bum are in this photo. "Right there." "See that line? That's the tail." Even with him pointing at it right in front of me, I had a hard time
Not to worry, he had a second chance a few minutes later. Luckily for you (and for me - I was in with Riley yet again), he got a better photo this time. It proves the possum was outside, but Roy is still a little distraught that he didn't get a photo of the face.
We keep waiting for another opportunity to get a good photo, but so far, no luck. A couple nights after Roy's exciting sighting, I did get to see it outside, but it scurried away quickly and never returned. Maybe it doesn't like the paparazzi - Roy and I were both glued to the patio door with cameras and video cameras and cell phones ready to capture all its best angles :)

hahaha i can picture you both paparazzi-ing. reminds me of the time a raccoon made it on to our back porch, then freaked out and knocked over a broom which pushed the door closed and wedged itself against it so that it couldn't be opened from the outside. kevin and i were looking through the glass door trying to figure out how we were going to get this thing out of our porch - and worried that the cat would come in through her cat door without knowing (which, if you know how nasty raccoons are, would have been an ugly scene). i think eventually kevin managed to open a small window and hook the broom with something... but then he had to be brave and open the door and hope the raccoon didn't get him. yes... funny time.
ReplyDeleteand yes, please have roy explain - with arrows in photoshop - where the opossum is in the first picture. i think it's as there as the soup that leighton ate at his friend's house ;)
I will get him to put a little Where's Waldo striped sweater and toque on it ;)
DeleteOh good heavens if I ever ran in to that I would never set foot outside after dark again.
ReplyDeleteFunny you should say that - on Saturday night I wanted to get some soil to re-pot some little cacti so I made Roy come outside with me while I grabbed it!!!
DeleteAnd you know what's funny, V? I think the last time you commented on my blog it was about the chameleons/lizards. I think you and I are kindred spirits with our views on these things!!!
Just remember: he is more afraid of you than you are of him (or her...can we expect babies in the future?).
ReplyDeleteOh, goodness, I hope not!
DeleteMoving things on the patio freak me out... day or night. Except for baby robins. We had one sitting on the deck rail the other morning and the boys stood there for about 10 minutes trying to talk to it! I will take robins over possums any day! ;)
ReplyDeleteBaby robins would be so much cuter!
