Cinderelly ballereenies

Leighton is a pretty big fan of ballerinas after he saw some of the older girls at his school performing a ballet number at the Christmas concert.  I can't tell you how many times we've watched that part of the DVD.  I can tell you it's far more than the number of times he's watches his own class performing their two songs though!  He does some pretty cute moves while he's watching sometime.

Leighton is also a pretty big fan of all things Disney princess.  He loves to dress up in princess dresses at the neighbors' and he always borrows their princess books to bring home.

So, when we were invited to go along with a group of other moms and kids on a tour of the Houston Ballet, I knew he'd be pretty excited.  The fact that I took them on the train downtown made it even more of an exciting event!

We got their early and found this park overlooking the bayou where we had a little snack.

We got to see some of the Houston Ballet in rehearsal and also some of the students in the school during evaluations.  We also got to see some of the students putting on their toe shoes and we walked through the wardrobe department to see lots of tutus.

We then got to see a condensed version of the Houston Ballet performing Cinderella on DVD.  We watched it in the room where they do the 4yr old ballet classes so the kids had fun with the bars and mirrors.

Afterwards we went with the group to the Farmer's Market in front of City Hall and had lunch.

Riley was interested in Leighton's red velvet cupcake.

She was not, however, interested in my announcement that it was time to leave to head back to the train.

We took the train back to the Med Center and Roy drove us home.  Riley had napped on the train, so we had the whole afternoon to play.  We went to the playground, but it was too hot so came back to play with the hose in the back yard instead!

  1. Sounds like a fun day. Great photo of Riley aiming the hose at Leighton.

  2. There is a whole series. Sadly, most are not in focus. I was too busy dashing out of the way of the little crazy girl with the hose!
