It was such a fantastic event and so well planned for the kids to have a great time.
We parked at a nearby business and got the shuttle bus to the Arboretum & Nature Center. The shuttle bus ended up being a limo bus, so the kids got a kick out of that. Riley liked the pink and orange little lights on the ceiling!
| *note Leighton's choice of shirt for the day - because we were going to the Arboretum, Leighton told me he wanted to wear something 'nature-ish' (his word, not mine!) |
We started off by playing some of the carnival games and collecting prizes. (Technically, we started off by accepting a white wine spritzer that was offered to us, but let's focus on the kids, shall we?!?!)
Then we bypassed the petting zoo and pony rides and did the bouncy house. Riley even went in without one us accompanying her!
A ride on the train was next.
Followed by lots and lots of hula hooping! We had no idea what Leighton had developed such skill. I took some video and he was going for about 20 seconds at a time. We were impressed!
Leighton gave his first ever interview.
The kids and I went in the photo booth for some silly photos. Riley decided on no costume, but Leighton chose hats, glasses, and boas for me and him.
We went inside next to decorate name plates for the books we were donating. Well, the kids decorated while Roy & I got another drink ;) Gotta love the room full of crafts for kids and a bar for adults!
And Leighton did a wax hand.
At this point, we realized we'd been there a long time and had completely skipped our normal snack time and our children were likely starving. So, to the food tents we went. We opted for some burgers, fries, and fruit, but there were also sandwiches and salads. The kids finished off their meal with some ice cream.
| This is the "Don't ask me for a bite of my ice cream" face!! |
And it was time for us to wrap up our afternoon, so we did one last hula hoop and went to make leather bracelets but the line was too long, so we decided on one last round at the carnival games. Along the way, Leighton decided he wanted to go on a pony ride, after all.
The balloon man on stilts made the kids a balloon and it was off to the shuttle bus back to the valet to collect our car.
What a wonderful event. Leighton and Riley definitely look like it was tons of fun. Was this a fundraising event? If so, can I make a donation?
ReplyDeleteIt was such a great event.
DeleteOur cost of admission was to donate a book to the hospital since this event was their annual Book Drive, so we took one for each of the kids. They have a couple libraries at TCH and then books around in other places in the hospital, I think (Leighton has taken the invite to save - it was very cool - so I don't have it with me to read the details), and were gathering new books for children and adults.
