When it rains, it pours

Things had been looking really good outside.   Until last night.  When more rain fell in an hour than in the last 6 months combined, I bet.  But before I get to showing you the aftermath, let's have a look at how pretty and happy the plants have been!

happy beans

new blooms every day

I LOVE the three colors of blooms

new citrus buds

stunning hibiscus

continuous growth of new flowers on the calla lilies

I have some videos of the storm in full force, but of course there is no cooperation between them and this blog right now and they simply do not want to be added easily!  I will try to get them working tomorrow if you care to check back!

Some of the plants looked just fine this morning, but others ... not so much.  And others are looking okay today, but I am expecting that after a day or two of being in waterlogged soil, they might not be very perky and chances of survival will be slim.  Tomorrow I will likely grab yet another couple bags of soil and re-pot the worst of them. I did this last year a couple times with our lavender plants after torrential downpours and it worked really well.  I just want to try to save them if I can!

red sister (2 of the three looked like this)

Leighton's pot

Kirsten's pot (notice the roots of her flower just floating in the water)

Riley's pot (the flower got flooded right out of the pot)

Riley's flower :(

ALL of that water came from the calla lily pot on the left when I tipped it a little

Some of the ones that didn't seem to mind the downpour:
new pink blooms on the hibiscus

beans are getting taller

little buds on the peppers

new height and flowers on the tomato

  1. Hopefully a minor setback...things are, in general, looking great.

    1. Got some soil today and hopefully tomorrow will be warm and sunny and I can try to rectify things!

  2. Hi Becky - Just caught up on all your recenct blogs. You have given me quite a few laughs (actally Roy gave me the biggest one, the minute I read that story I knew where it was heading, tell Roy that Luis would have done the exact same thing).
Anyway about your plants, my Dad has some planters outside he back door with beautiful flowers in them, because we are from very rainy Ireland he usually punches a few holes in the plastic inserts to make sure the excess water can get out, not sure how it would work with the colourful one that you have but if you sat them on some sort of a dish it might work. Good luck.
