March edition of the funny things our kids say

March 3, 2013:
Leighton has been watching a lot of Disney TV since moving to the new house.  Every morning before school, we watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.  Riley will randomly start singing 'Hot Dog, Hot Dog, Hot Diggity Dog' from the show, but tonight she really made us laugh when she was wandering about saying, "Oh Toodles!" and it sounded like "Oh, Noodles!"

March 3, 2013:
Every night when I am putting Riley in her crib recently I tell her how proud her I am that she's learned to sleep through the night.  So, tonight, I tell her that.  Tell her I love her.  Kiss.  In the crib she goes.  Then we need to find possum and mouse and other one mouse so I need to turn on the light.  And then we cover her back up.  More I love yous.  As I get to the door and say, "Night, Night" she says, "Night, Night, Mommy.  Proud of you."

March 8, 2013:
When we were driving in the car, Leighton and Riley were gabbing back and forth and then Leighton comes out with, "Look, Riley, that's fuckin' good!"  I was shocked and tried not to laugh.  I asked him to repeat what he said, so he did.  I informed him that's not a good choice of words and asked where he learned it.  He told me he made it up, but eventually it came out that he learned it from a kid at school - the same one that has had him experimenting with the 'F' word a couple other times this year.

March 8, 2013:
We were talking about brains at dinner, and Roy asked Riley if she knew where brains are.  She stuck her finger in her ear and said, "In ear."

March 14, 2013:
We were driving past a cemetery on the way to Galveston:
L: What are those things called again?
Me & Roy: Cemetery.  It's where they bury people.
L: I thought it's where they put bones.
Me & Roy: Yep.  They bury bones.
L: So where does the skin go?

March 20, 2013:
When I made Leighton sit to get his fingernails cut, he said to me, "You know why I don't like getting my nails cut?  Because then I can't pick my nose."

March 20, 2013:
Riley saw something when we were driving and said, "Holy Moly Cow!"  I laughed so hard.

March 20, 2013:
Leighton was reading a sign on the road announcing an accident on one of the highways.  I asked him if he knew accident was spelled like that and not with any 'x' ... well, he gave me a schooling in letter sounds and told me "Of course it's a 'c' and not an 'x'.  It isn't a-x-x-x-sssident, it's a-k-k-k-k-sssident with a 'k' sound.

March 22, 2013:
Riley was in her crib (supposedly!) falling asleep for the night and called me in to fix her blanket or scratch her mosquito bites or something of the sort.  I left her room and then I hear her on the monitor ordering requesting me to return to put her blanket back on PROPERLY.

March 23, 2013:
Tonight when I was gathering up some laundry, Riley demanded asked to help carry it to the laundry room.  She put in her little romper from the day and then started crying because "now I no have tiny shorts tomorrow any more".

March 24, 2013:
Leighton walked to the kitchen, and Riley said, "Hi, Mr Leighton!"  Very cute because I always call Leighton Mr Leighton or Mr Magoo or just plain Mister.  She hasn't ever called him a nickname like that though.  Super cute!

March 24, 2013:
Riley peed on the toilet a handful of times between the ages of 18 months and when we moved out of the old house.  She always talks about how she should pee on the toilet so she can open the package of underwear from Grandma and Papa and wear the presents and dots underwear.  But, she is really resistant to ever sitting on the toilet.  We talk about it a lot but never push her to actually do it.  Yesterday we had Luke and Douniazed and the kids over to play.  This is how a pee conversation went:
Riley: Where Soraya go?
Me: She went to the toilet to pee, the thing you refuse to do.
Riley: (grumpy voice) Baby pee on toilet at old house!
Me: You're right!  You remember that?
Riley: Yes.  (pauses for a minute) Baby pee new house soon.

March 25, 2013:
Today at the playground Leighton was running with Kyla and Riley and shouted, "I can beat y'all!"  The other day he had used "y'all" when he was talking to me as well, and I had a good laugh.  My little Texan!  I asked him where he learned the word and he said from all the kids at school.  He thought I was a little silly even asking since he sees it as a pretty common word that I should just know that!

No specific date:
Riley often complains of being cold when she gets out of the bath and shivers.  The funny part is when she grabs herself and tells us her vagina is cold.

March 28, 2013:
Tonight Riley was laying on the floor wasting time before kissing Roy goodnight.  To try to encourage her to hurry up, I told her to show Daddy her new pink pony tails.  He told her to get up and come closer so he could see.  Instead, she sat up and asked, "This better now?" and he said, "No, get up and come come closer."  She proceeded to get up a tiny bit at a time - sitting, kneeling, on one knee, crouching, standing with bent knees, etc - and asked every time, "This better now?"  I have no idea where she learned something like that, but I laughed a lot!

No specific date:
When Leighton was little, he called my pony tail a pony whale.  Riley calls her ponytails 'pono-tails'.

March 29, 2013:
This morning Leighton walked into the kitchen, and Riley said, "Hi, Mr. Penis!"  He laughed and replied, "Hi Miss Vagina!"  Quick thinking on his part.  And no idea where she got that name from - it's not one we've ever used that she's copied!!

March 30, 2013:
At the dinner table tonight, Riley wasn't wearing a shirt and puffed out her chest for some reason or another.  Leighton said, "Hey!  I can see her blood carriers.  Or whatever they are called."  I said, "Veins and arteries."  He agreed and asked her to do it again so he could see them again.  Then he started looking all over his body to see his own.

March 30, 2013:
Tonight Riley was sitting on my lap and her massive hair was going in my face, so I tried to contain it in a bun and held it there.  I was explaining to Leighton and Riley that it was called a bun, and then Riley wanted me to let go and said, "No want bunny hair anymore."

March 30, 2013:
Tonight we were discussing the Easter Bunny and then Santa and then Leighton brought up the Tooth Fairy.  As part of the discussion, he asked, "Why does the Tooth Fairy want to collect children's teeth anyway"  I didn't have a great answer for that one!  I gave a few random suggestions and then just admitted I have no idea why she'd want them!

March 20, 2013:
These past few days, Riley has been calling me MOM sometimes instead of MOMMY.  I like MOMMY better!  The kids seem too grown up when they call me MOM.  I corrected her once this afternoon and Roy laughed that Leighton flirted with calling me MOM at some point and I corrected him and he just stuck with MOMMY.  After dinner, I walked into the room where Riley was, and she said, "Hi MR MOM!"  It's funny that she is really on this Mr kick lately!

No specific date:
Riley has different names for the different ways we do her hair.  If we just brush it out, she calls it curly  or bouncy because she likes to jump in front of the mirror and see the curls bounce up and down.  If we put it in two pony tail braids, she calls them teeter totters because the first time we put them in, she swung them from side to side and said they were like a teeter totter.  Two pony tails are called pono tails, and we just got new colored pony tail elastics, so now she dictates what colors we use.  Her other choices are headband or bows.  She has different names for her bows.  There are tiny bows, Christmas bows, and other one bows.
