Spring Break post #7: Yeehaw, cowboy (and cowgirls)!

Leighton has been talking about the rodeo all year and was SO excited to go again this year.  Amongst other things, he was eager to try the tractor pull again and to get a pink cowboy hat he had seen last year. It was great timing that my Mom and Kirsten were here during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo this year so that they could come with us, and we lucked out with another beautiful day to spend outside.

We got an early start (which I know Kirsten was just thrilled about!) to try to avoid the crowds.  Like last year, we parked at Roy's work and took the MetroRail over.  It was the first time my Mom got to see Roy's building, and the kids love the fountains there, so it was not only convenient, it was a bonus to the day!

The rest of our day went fairly similar to last year.  Did most of the same activities (Kids' Pedal Tractor Pull, Fun on the Farm, seeing the baby animals, collecting cards, squished penny, yummy lunch) and also got the kids their pink cowboy hats and Kirsten went on some rides.  Riley couldn't get enough of the corn at Fun on the Farm, so we had to go through a second time!  And Leighton did fantastic in the tractor pull.  Each kid gets a turn with a certain amount of weight added and if they make it far enough, they get to go to the second round and more weight is added.  Leighton was one of only 5 kids that made it to that far this time.  He was so cute and we were super proud and excited for him.

It was a really fun day!  And going on the last weekend/day has been a smart move for us so far because it isn't very busy.  We will likely do the same next year.

  1. This last picture is so dear. I love it. The pink cowboy hat and the milking the cow are my favorites too. What fun! Can't wait to experience it next year. -lgb
