The biggest eater in our house

Nope, not Roy.

And not me either.

And although Riley could have gotten the title tonight at dinner, lately, it's usually Leighton.  The kid has always had a big appetite and has consumed more food than I ever thought possible for a child on many occasions, but right now he must be going through another growth spurt or something because he is an eating machine.

A couple of weeks ago, I hit the jackpot and found the Churrasco To Go food truck parked outside Leighton's school when I was dropping him off after a dentist appointment.  The appointment had run later than expected, and it was lunch time.  I had provisions in the car for the kids, but not for myself (story of my life!).  So, I eagerly paid for a plate of deliciousness and brought it home for after I got Riley down for her nap.

It was WAY too much food for me (you can't tell in the picture, but there is a pile of meat under the bread and container of sauce), so I saved some for Roy, knowing he'd be as excited as I was to have this food again.

But guess who ate most of it?  Yup.  Leighton.  Meat, beans, rice, and even sausage and chicken were eagerly devoured.  And that was AFTER he had his piece of lasagna and carrots (Riley also ate her whole piece and then most of mine!).  And after that he had a banana.  And then half an apple (we love pink lady apples - if you've never tried one, it's the best kind out there!).  And then ANOTHER banana.  We stopped him there!

One night this week, we had the extremely nutritious meal of hot dogs (don't judge - we were down to zero groceries and I chose fastest dinner on the planet and a longer time at the playground instead of a proper grocery shop and meal prep time), and Leighton had three. Yes, THREE.  Buns and all.  Along with a large pile of watermelon and a couple of pieces of cheese, too.  I was full after 1.5 (but you know I stuffed in all of that second one because portion control is not my strong suit!) and the kid ate three.  Crazy!

And, for afternoon snack at school the other day, he told me he had 2 bowls of popcorn, 2 chocolate graham crackers, the crackers I had sent in his lunch, and then the banana and one of the clementines that Daddy sent in his backpack.

Can you imagine our grocery bill when he is a teenager (especially, combined with his sister, Miss Hungry All The Time)?
