Up close and personal with the giant armadillo

My sister gave us a great book of photographs of Houston before we moved here, and in there was a picture of the giant armadillo outside Goode Co's Armadillo Palace.  We've driven by it several times and Leighton has always noticed it and been interested, but the other day Riley and I drove by and was so excited by it.  She kept talking about bringing Leighton to see it, so it was a wonderful coincidence that Roy emailed that afternoon to invite us to join him and his lab for lunch across the street from it on Friday when Leighton was off school.

Roy's technician that started working in the lab for him when he started up in the Bronx and then moved with him here to Houston is moving back to D.C. this week, so it was a farewell lunch for her.

The kids were pretty excited that we were going to have lunch with Daddy, and they were also pretty thrilled to get to park near the armadillo to go see it up close and personal.

There were also some blue bonnets blooming in their garden.  Leighton and I have been keen to get out and see the fields of them outside the city since we missed them last year, but in case we miss them again - we quickly took a picture!
