All by self

I have been wanting to have a growth chart in the house for the kids since they were born.  But, being the indecisive person I am, I could never choose one.  I didn't want something kiddie-like that wouldn't really work when they were teens (eek, one day they will grow up and be taller than me!).  I always love the commercial that shows the couple taking the door trim they used for a growth chart for their children with them when the sell their house (no idea what the ad is for though, of course!) and wanted something like that.  So, when this ruler growth chart started popping up all over Pinterest, I knew I had to have one.  And I decided I could make it myself since it seemed like so many people were blogging about it.

And, I did it.

All by self (that's Riley speak for "all by myself" and we use it a lot around here even though I think she may have grown out of saying it recently!).

I bought a board and some stain at Lowe's.

Then I went back for my little sander.

I sanded it and stained it during Riley's nap one day.  It took no time at all.

I decided on using a paint marker for the lines and numbers instead of decals.  And instead of a stencil, I just traced over printed out numbers and it made a little groove in the wood.  I then filled that in.  Easy peasy.

A final spray of clear varnish and it's done.

Now we just need to hang it and start measuring!

  1. it's great!! i love it! (though judging by the 'gets taller by the minute' soccer playing food monger you've got in the house you might have wanted to go all the way to #7 xD)
