"Momma, there's a creature on the recycling can!"

"Uh huh, " Mommy replies as she continues to get the scones cut out and onto the cookie sheets for baking.

"Mommy can you open these bubbles?" Leighton asks sweetly.

"Sure.  Just let me get my hands washed."  Mommy says.

"I saw the creature when I was getting the bubbles."

"Uh huh. I am coming.  What kind of creature, Leighton?  Like a bird or a bug?" Mommy asks, distractedly.

"I don't know.  A creature.  Mommy, the bubbles.  Open the bubbles, puh-lease."

Mommy comes to the patio door to open the bubbles and glances at the recycling can.  Leighton passes her the bubbles.  She stops.  She gets a little freaked cuz she's a wimp but quickly recovers.   She needs to be brave for her audience.  And it's pretty small.  Nothing to be scared of, anyway.  Right???  Then she dashes for her camera and puts the bubbles down in a hurry.

A little while later when Leighton is delivering our yummy brownies and maple oatmeal scones to Chuck and Billy we find out it's a chameleon.  Cool!  Leighton has several books he really likes about chameleons!  (***Roy just saw the pictures and thinks it's a lizard not a chameleon.  But he isn't sure since he only knows African lizards and chameleons, not Texas ones!  Who knows.  I will just still refer to it as a creature like Leighton!)  Billy says we can even catch it and hold it, but it might bite a little.  But it won't hurt.  Um, not sure I want to test that theory, thank you very much.  Not sure where the little girl that caught garter snakes and newts and frogs growing up disappeared to, but she's much more comfortable in the kitchen or behind the camera or blogging or anywhere that doesn't involve creatures.  Or bugs (of which there was apparently a very large one on the floor in the playroom this morning.  Ick.).

And in case you'd rather look at pictures of yummy food and a cute boy instead of creatures, here ya go!

  3. I have no issues with pictures of creatures, but I don't like them up close and in person! *laugh* Baking is much better.
