Oh, who are the people in your neighborhood?
In your neighborhood?
In your neighborhood?
Say, who are the people in your neighborhood?
The people that you meet each day.
Now that you all will have that tune stuck in your head the rest of the day, I'll get on with the point of this post!
Many of you have asked what our neighbors and neighborhood are like, so I thought I'd give a little run down of who we have met so far. Everyone is extremely friendly and welcoming and helpful. We love it!
Our landlady also owns the house next door and another across the street. The one across the street is occupied by a family with 2 kids, ages 4 and 6, and there is a family with children the same ages moving in next door tomorrow. The house on our other side is a family with a son, 2, and a daughter, 9. The rest of the houses on the cul de sac don't appear to have children, although I thought I saw a couple teenagers outside of one the first morning we were here. There are several retirees, and we saw one of the ladies walking back from the neighbors' with 2 eggs the other day - it made me so excited to live on a street that is so neighborly!
The people we've talked with the most are the men that live in the two houses across from us - Chuck and Billy. Chuck and his wife have given us good tips about schools and garbage day. And they've done a good job scaring us even more about summer temperatures here! Billy has helped us with so much. He let me know more about garbage day, what tree not to park under in the summer due to dripping pitch, and what roads will be flooded when it rains. He also checked on our washing machine after I told him it was pouring water through the garage last week. The last two weeks we've found him bringing up our garbage can after the garbage truck comes by, and yesterday, he asked Roy if it was okay if he mowed our lawn when he did his later on! In the afternoon, Leighton squealed in delight that Billy was outside mowing the lawn, so I took the kids outside to watch while he mowed and then brought the weed wacker over. He did the front and back yard. I will be baking something yummy to take over to him and his wife tomorrow!
I still haven't gotten back into the baking groove since moving here. Need to work on that. I've only baked one thing in the three weeks we've been in the house - a yummy lemon blueberry loaf I found on Pinterest. Here is the recipe for anyone interested: http://sweetpeaskitchen.com/2011/05/15/lemon-blueberry-yogurt-loaf/
Here are some pictures of the kids while we were outside watching Billy at work and having afternoon snack (not the lemon blueberry loaf - that was last week!):
sounds like you chose a great place to be... so nice to have neighbors who look out for each other and are eager to lend a hand. i love that the kiddos were so excited to watch the lawnmowing - a whole new world!
ReplyDeletei think i pinned the same loaf cake (haven't baked anything new for awhile - but made another pan of my boat floating brownies last week.. so sinful!!)
Leighton loves those brownies! Maybe I will go get some cocoa this morning and we can bake some up for Billy.
ReplyDeleteOh - and Leighton used to watch Chris and Willy mow in the Bronx, but for some reason it is much more exciting here on ground level rather than out our windows!
