Movie time!

On the weekend, we took the kids to see Frozen at the theater.  It was the first time either of the kids had been to a theater!  And although Leighton has seen some movies at school, he isn't used to seeing full feature length movies very often, and it was the first time Riley had ever watched a full movie (there is no shortage of TV in her life, but it's usually just regular TV shows). It was also the first time Roy & I had been to a theater together since I was pregnant with Leighton!  It was very exciting for us all!

We met up with Kate and Garrick and the girls, but they got there after we were already sitting in our seats.  They sat beside us and I thought the kids would be all giddy to chat and run around after the show, but our two were COMPLETELY drained from the experience and pretty much said nothing after we walked out.  We were caught off guard with that response!!  But, the more we thought about, the more we realized what a BIG thing it was for them and they were just exhausted.  It's not all that surprising when you add together:
- the anticipation and excitement of seeing their first move in a theater
- the overwhelming assault on their senses from the huge screen and loud volume (and bellies FULL of popcorn)
- paying attention to and following the storyline of a 1hr 48minute movie the entire time (plus previews)
- being in the darkness focussing solely on a movie that was also kind of dark (it was, after all, a movie about frozen winter and not colorful spring and summer!)
- the plot being a little scary and intense at times

Both kids perked up after a while though, and then the constant chitter chatter about the movie began.  They both liked it and want to go back again.  I hope there's another fun family movie to take them too soon.

  1. Wonderful that you all were able to go. A full length movie is a long sit for a little kid! Glad it was a good experience.

  2. We are very Frozen-obsessed over in this house. H has seen it 3 times and talks about it all the time. She sings the songs, watches them on YouTube, etc etc etc. She is currently trying to earn a storybook app.
