We got up in the morning, said our goodbyes, and packed up the car to start our journey home.
Along the route we were driving, there were so many different placed we could have detoured off the highway for - Kermit the Frog museum/Jim Henson's birthplace, Oprah Winfrey's birthplace, a petrified forest/rocks, a walkout to see some giant trees, the sweet potato capitol of the US, and the list goes on! It's really amazing how much there is everywhere you drive! Anyway, our first stop was for lunch in Jackson, Mississippi at a place called The Pig and Pint that I had found to have good food and a good atmosphere. It didn't disappoint. I loved the long tables outside, and the kids loved the sidewalk chalk, Jenga, and corn hole available. The food was really good, too! Roy and I had more ribs!
We walked down the street to a cute little bakery for a treat after lunch. There wasn't much inventory, but the kids found some cake pops they were interested in trying.
From the restaurant, we drove to the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. The admission price is already very reasonable, but I had scored a Groupon for half off the admission the week before our trip! The introductory video was really well done - informative and entertaining. And the whole place was really impressive. There was a lot to look at, touch, read, play with, etc.
From here, we drove for a while and stopped in the border town of Vicksburg, Mississippi to see the place where the first Coca Cola was every bottled. They had a little museum and soda fountain.

This area of the old town was very cute. You could look down at the Mississippi River from there.
As we drove out of the historic town center, we saw an area where you could stop and take pictures with some 'welcome to Mississippi' signs. We were about to exit the state, but it would have been a nice place to stop for pictures anyway if we knew about it!
We drove over the river and entered Louisiana. Back to a state we'd been to before! But, we'd never been this far north, so it was still something new! We took a little side tour to see the site where Bonnie and Clyde were ambushed and the gas station where Frank Hamer used a pay phone to call and say they had been killed. Totally random, but we thought both our dads would get a kick out of it!
We arrived in Shreveport after dark and went straight to the restaurant I had found for dinner. It was called Twisted Root Burger Co and is a franchise of the original in Dallas, which we will now have to go to when we head there next! It is another place that is family friendly (the kids played giant Connect 4 outside while waiting for dinner to come), has good food, and has a lot of good beer on tap for Roy! They also had a delicious pickle bar and ice cream as part of the meal for dessert :)
We checked into the hotel (Best Western Plus Airport Inn) and got ourselves to sleep for the last night of the trip. It was a brand new hotel and we booked through Orbitz. It was the best price.
