Spring Break started out super rainy and wet. The kids' soccer was cancelled (very disappointing for them since it was the championship matches, which both their teams were in, but we were advised it would be played after the break, so the kids were relieved), and I needed to drop my car off to get the a/c fixed, so we decided to go out for lunch to celebrate our 20th dating anniversary (how has it been 20 years??!!). I was craving Indian food after Riley was working on her Little Passports and the country was India, and we usually like to celebrate our anniversaries with Indian or Greek food. We talked to the kids about being open minded and being willing to try things and took them to a buffet. I know they would at least eat the naan! And I figured they would like the tandoori chicken and rice and maybe something else without sauce as well. They did SO well with trying things and ate a lot! They were both so happy and had a great time, so we did too!
When we got home, Leighton needed to make a puppet for a class project. He was making Pig Boy. I had bought some supplies and Riley was also excited to create something so she sat beside us. Leighton and I worked together to create his, and Riley took scraps and did hers all on her own (except Roy helped her with some cardboard cutting). It was a lot of fun!
We spent the afternoon packing for our trip, and Riley made herself another clothing 'menu' like when we went to NYC in the fall so we knew what she was wearing each day (and didn't nee to argue or have her stressing out about it!). I made outfits for myself and Leighton with everything we'd need each day all folded into a bundle, too, but we didn't draw pictures, I just took one on my camera! It is so easy when we are on a trip and I can just grab a little stack for each day and not try to figure out what to wear and where the socks are hiding in the suitcase!
The next day was our annual day at the rodeo! This year was a little different though because we bought tickets to see a concert. It worked out SO well that the Sunday concert was Leighton's favorite band! The Sunday concerts start a few hours earlier than the shows the rest of the week, so this way the kids got to see someone they love and we didn't need to be up really late! Win win! We went around noon to do the usual activities we like to do - tractor peddle pull, carnival games, fun on the farm, seeing the hatching chicks and baby pigs, etc. Before the concert, they have the rodeo events as well - we were super excited to get to watch this year! We all really enjoyed it! We decided that we'd definitely like do it again next year and hope that one of the Sunday concerts is one we'd want to see! It turns out to be a really good deal because your concert ticket includes the regular admission, the rodeo, and the concert.
I love the clothing menu! Going to suggest that for Alan the next time we take a trip!
