Unlike most of our other trips when we start driving or fly out earlier in the morning, we didn't have to be at the airport until around noon. It was pouring rain, but we managed to get from the car to the parking lot shuttle without getting soaked.
The kids were very excited to get settled in on the plane and were pleased with the child's pack they were given. They enjoyed their special kids' meal and all the snacks. Roy and I enjoyed the wine ... and I think I recall Roy having a scotch or two, as well! We all watched movies, read, and Riley and I both tried to get a little sleep (Leighton and Roy never closed their eyes once!). We landed before midnight our time, so none of us were tired enough to get in a solid amount of sleep, unfortunately!
It didn't take long to get out of the airport and find a taxi. We arrived at the hotel and stored our bags because our room wasn't going to be ready for us for several hours. We wandered the city a little and had some breakfast. And the first of MANY samples of cheese! It was a little chilly, and I was starting to worry that I didn't pack very well for me & the kids for the trip.
Then we went to sit in the hotel lobby to wait for our room in hopes that we could get in earlier than regular check in time. Roy eventually fell asleep. And I did too right before getting in our room. But the kids? Awake the whole time!
We got into our room around lunchtime in Amsterdam/4 or 5am Houston time and all had a good, long nap for several hours. It was hard to wake the kids up, but we figured we better because it was already getting late for dinner time!
It was starting to drizzle a bit, so we got the umbrellas and sweaters and rain jackets and set out for Foodhallen, an indoor food hall I had read about that sounded like it would have a great mix of yummy foods to try. It definitely didn't disappoint. The kids shared a delicious pizza. Roy had some Heineken. Roy and I shared some Spanish cheese and meats. Roy had some more Heineken. I had an amazing gin and tonic with mango and spicy red chilis. The kids had some french fries. Roy and I tried some bitterballen (the flavors were interesting but the texture was weird). I think Roy had some more Heineken. And then the kids tried a fresh waffle ice cream cone. It was a great atmosphere (I always enjoy places with shared tables) and we all really enjoyed the food and the fun there.
We then made our way back to the hotel for the night.

Oooo the ice cream in the last photo looks fabulous! Good thing you walked off all those calories before you ate them.
ReplyDeleteI think I need to walk another 50 miles to walk off everything we ate!
