On Leighton's first day off school (hard to believe this was almost a month ago and I am just now getting to posting about it!), we kept ourselves busy and had a really fun time. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera so only have some cell phone shots for you - many of which are pretty decent though!
Stop 1
Shipley's Donuts because it was National Donut Day, and to celebrate they (along with other donut chains) were giving away free donuts. Wahoo! Now, before we even left, my kids were asking for donuts with sprinkles. I explained that they were only giving away glazed donuts and nobody could choose something different. Leighton was fine with that. He was getting a donut for breakfast, after all. Riley, however, gave me a sideways look that I knew would mean trouble when she saw all the other kinds on the shelves for purchase. I thought about it and almost told them they could get what they wanted, but then I realized the whole point was for FREE donuts! So, you know what I did? I brought my own sprinkles. Yes. I. Did. We sat outside and ate our warm, fresh donuts in the shade. I sprinkled on all sorts of red, white, and pink sprinkles and my kids were more than pleased!
The spot we sat was on the edge of the sidewalk in front of a yet-to-open pizza place called Pinks. I have seen another one but have yet to taste it. The kids and I decided we'd be sure to change that once this one opens! They sell slices. Just like in NY! No idea what style of pizza it is though.
Stop 2
After loading up on sugar, we were off to Riley's play group at the Y. It is usually only ever held during the school year on days when there are no school holidays because the camps use the gym when school is out. Leighton had been desperate to get a look at it and we were pleased to find out that they were doing one more before summer camps started the following Monday. I think Leighton was more excited about going with Riley than he was about the donuts - and he was crazy excited for that!
Stop 3
And now it was time for Costco. And remember, my kids are weird. They like grocery shopping, so this was another fun destination. It also helps that our routine is to get pizza for lunch, do our shopping (and eat all the samples!), and then get ice cream on the way out!

Hey, I know that cute cherry dress...and those super cute kids. Sounds like a successful first day of summer vacation.
ReplyDeleteI think you are the coolest mom for bringing your own sprinkles to the donut shop. And for knowing it was free donut day.
ReplyDeleteOMG Pink's Pizza is SO GOOD. We have been to the West U one a couple times. So flavorful.
Good to hear a review of PINKS! Thanks! I will have to keep checking to see when it opens!
