Here's a look at what we were up to the second week of summer vacation ...
Monday
In the morning before it got TOO hot, we met Douniazed, Zayne & Soraya at Evergreen Park. We had never played there before, but will be sure to return!
We then crossed the road to wander through the grounds of the Nature Discovery Center in Russ Pitman Park. After bothering the poor bunny, we spent some time in the sandbox at the playground.
In the afternoon, Lindsey and kids stopped by for a quick pre-dinner swim.
Tuesday
This week I got the dates right! We were off to HEB story time. The kids loved it. After the story, there was a craft - and a snack!
We then hopped in the car and rushed to the Bellaire Library for our 'split banana' story time.
I had a few ideas of activities for the afternoon, but if I recall correctly we were all tired and lazy, the kids watched a lot of TV, and we just did a whole lot of nothing!
Wednesday
We started the morning at CRAVE Cupcakes. We had never been there, but it was their 5th birthday celebration and they were giving out free mini cupcakes, so we decided to pop in! Riley licked a bit of icing off the top of hers and was done, so I ate it (I'd be scared to tally up all the food I consume just trying to finish what the kids don't want/can't finish!) and was really impressed. Usually I find these types of cakes and cupcakes too sweet and/or too generic, but the red velvet I sampled was a really nice flavor. If I am ever in the mood to spend far too much on a very pretty cupcake, I'd go back, for sure!
We were then off to our first swim at Y this summer. We had a lot of fun splashing in the fountains, going under the mushroom, and watching the big kids coming down the slide.
We went to play in the yard with Lindsey and the kids in the afternoon. They really LOVE the slide and pool that they played with the Friday before and were VERY eager to go back or more!
Thursday
Our first stop of the morning was at the Bellaire Library to check out some books. The kids are really into the different summer reading programs and collecting prizes for their reading.
We then were off to the other library - McGovern Stella Link - for craft time. I wasn't impressed with the activity of the day because it was almost nothing the kids could do on their own. All the parents and caregivers had to do it all. But it was cute and the kids liked what they got to bring home, so they weren't complaining!
I like ice cream and I like a good deal. But you already know that :) So, it should come as no surprise that I wedged a visit to Sonic into our busy week for half price milkshakes in the afternoon! They were celebrating the first official day of summer with the deal (and it's going on every night after 8pm, too!). We had never been to a Sonic, and I wasn't sure exactly how the logistics worked with it being a drive in and a drive through, so we decided to park and walk up and figure it all out. It was super hot out, but at the tables outside in the shade (they have no inside tables), it was really pleasant with a constant breeze blowing through. After deciding between the 30 or so flavors of shakes and figuring out how to order, we had fun watching the servers on rollerblades and enjoyed our shakes (coconut for me, caramel for Leighton and white aka vanilla for Riley).
We had been wanting to swim after dinner with the kids and finally made it happen. They loved it and it was a good way to spend our short post-dinner/pre-bath family time.
Friday
We had filled the week with lots of fun kid activities, but some errands were piling up, so the kids were taken on a whirl wind morning of 'needs to get done'! In the span of a couple short hours, we got through Target, Marshall's, Lowe's, Hobby Lobby, and Kohl's. Returns were made, birthday presents were bough, mosquito sprays were acquired, stickers were rewarded, and coupons were redeemed. I love a successful morning like that!
In the afternoon, our friends Erin, Emilia, and Addie came to swim here. We had a lot of fun in the pool with them ... and extra fun for the mommies because Erin brought a gigantic bottle of margaritas with her!
And that was how we spent our 2nd week of summer vacation!

I get tired just reading about all the activities.
ReplyDeleteMe, too!
DeleteSounds fun and exhausting, you are always on the go!! Also picking up a trend with Leighton and ties!! When did that start?
ReplyDeleteHe liked to wear them for his non uniform days at school and then once he was out of school he just started to want to wear them almost every day! He's slowed down on them the last week though and just wears them for special events like birthday parties. We will see what next week brings!
DeleteI love my leighton man in ties. Hope Nash will pick up on that and be a dapper Dan like leighton man. :). Lgb
