You may recall that we took to the kids bowling for a birthday party back in May. Well, they've both been asking to go back ever since! So, we made a date with our friends Ben, Jenn, Riley, and Maddie and took the kids last weekend.
The kids were super excited, as expected. And we got Riley the shoes this time! And we bowled, too (but did NOT get the lane with bumpers for the adults .... and with the exception of Ben, we all could have used them once or twice ... or more!).
We had a really great time. The kids all did so well waiting their turn. And everyone did better than me (even the kids! But they hand bumpers on their lane!)! I feel like I should make a statement here that I have only ever bowled 10 pin bowling with these giant balls once in my life when I was a young teenager. I've only ever used the itty bitty, lighter balls for 5 pin bowling. Not that I was any better with those though - ha!
There is free bowling for kids at some of the bowling alleys in the city (and across the country and in Canada, from what I've read online) for the summer, but not at the place near us. The man working there didn't charge us all for our shoe rental, so it didn't end up being too costly for an air conditioned activity on a weekend afternoon!

What a great family activity! I remember Grandma taking us bowling one summer at a new huge bowling facility. I think Aunt Susan was about Leighton's age, so she rolled it from between her legs and it would ever-so-slowly travel down the lane and knock down a few pins. I have a lot of fond memories of bowling over the years. My first crush as a pre-teen was someone I met at a JCC Saturday afternoon bowling league (my team was called "4 hits and a miss" because I was the only girl). I took bowling in PE in junior high and in university. I think it was during the latter that I realized I was fairly ambidextrous and could bowl with either hand with the same result. To this day, I don't know whether I am a left or right handed bowler. We'll have to go bowling next time we are in Houston. Papa will love it!
ReplyDeleteIt was on our list of ideas for this visit but just didn't get to it all. Next time, for sure.
DeleteLeighton can send that ball down faster than me, I think!! Riley's rolls slllloooooow. This time it even stopped and started rolling back one time!!
