Roy and I have moved around a lot. This means we've had the challenge and pleasure of having to meet and make new friends several times over. And when we moved Leighton to a new school AGAIN this year, he had the opportunity to make new friends, too. I was never worried about him - he's young and social and I knew there was no reason to worry about his willingness and ability to bond with new kids. It was me I was worrying about! Every time we move cities or schools, I have to put myself out there so I can get to know the other mommies and have to hope that I can find a group that I fit into. Luckily, as with every other move, I've made some great new mommy (and daddy!) friends at Leighton's school.
Every day after the kids are dismissed, there is a group of them that play all sorts of running and chasing (and tackling ….) games, so it gives me the chance to visit with the other parents. And I've met a new friend through attending PTO meetings. And there is a wonderful group of Kindergarten mommies that I've gotten to know and last week we all spent a lot of time together. Some of us went to the library after school for Minute to Win It activity. Wednesday was an early dismissal day from school, so a big group of us were at the playground for a while together. Thursday we had a play date here (Kate's daughter Clementine is in Leighton's class and is almost exactly a month younger than him and her little sister Georgia is a week older than Riley!). And then Sunday we spent with many of the kids and parents at Clementine's birthday party. Starting this coming week, Leighton will be playing on a basketball team with many of the kids at the Y. It's really nice to have a great group of friends for me and the kids to spend time with.

There are advantages to moving around...friends from your past locations will come to visit!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that there is yet another wonderful group of mommies, daddies, and kiddies in your world.
Thanks for including the cute photo of Leighton in his fern shirt and necktie.
Yes, he wanted to dress "nature-ish" since the party was at the Nature Discovery Center :)
